Just wanted to holler at y'all! I'm new to the hobby, don't have any equipment (yet) and have been on one dig at the Hogg Mine in Lagrange, Ga! I've been a member over on the Dirty Rockhounds forum for a few months now and have really become interested in cutting and polishing! I figure tumbling would be the cheapest wat to start out and be a good way to see if I have a genuine interest in it. ;D So, is there a good inexpensive ($100-$200) tumbler out there that won't break down on me with just a few weeks use?

Welcome to the group. Stick with Thumler's Tumbler or Lortone. Both are American made and parts are readily available but seldom needed.

Thanks John. Been looking at the Lortone Kit. I think that may be where I start.

Hodgehound -- I just to race 1/8 scale cars a while back...but It just did not interest me anymore...I think the rockhounding business is a lot more fun, cause you get to go out place and meet new people. When I first started in this forum, I did not know much about rocks, but I'm learning and continue learning from everyone's posting. Hope your experience is as great as mine...there are really a lot of good people in this forum.
I may have a tumbler open for sale in a month or so...it has been running non-stop for about 8 months and it is great. It is an older Lortone...I have replaced all of the parts on it.
Good luck,
Ozzy

Hey thanks wizz. Let me know about the tumbler! Yeah, I did the car, buggy, truck thing. Was fun as long as you had buddies to run with. By yourself gets boring quick! For some reason RC Aircraft NEVER gets old OR boring! Me and my 6 year boy just got back from a whole day of flying! My home flying field (Hodges Hobbies) is only 8 minutes away. I think thats why I can't shake it. It's just too easy to throw a plane or 5 in the truck and go! Let me know when and how much for the tumbler. If I have not already found one by then, maybe we can work a deal.

Well one of the guys on DRF sold me a Covington 250 and a bunch of grit to get me on my way for a really really good deal!! I get to pick it up on Labor Day at the Hogg Mine in Lagrange, Ga. when we have our dig there. Can't wait to get my first batch going!!!!!!
