to be honest..i have never shined a pair shoes...i have never had a need to ....i get dressed up so little that my shoes are always shined ;D. me and cp have to figure out how to shine his navy shoes....and we dont know how ....his grandad was going to teach him all of this....butt of course he passed away. we bought kiwi shoe polish today......instructions say to apply polish with a cloth or applicator....allow to dry...buff with a cloth....o.k. i got that. how much polish?...a lot a little?.....does it matter as long as you buff it all off?. when the instructions say buff.....does it mean the shoes need to be buffed hard....softly?.....sorry to sound dumb....kev.

Just put a little dab on a cloth and rub it in until it seems to run out, then dab a little more on and keep goin until you have the whole shoe covered. Let it dry then, then do a quick buff with a semi clean cloth, then a long slow buff with a clean cloth. Some times if you wet the final buff cloth it will make the polish "arrange" itself better, not alot of wet, just touch the cloth to your tongue every now and then. We used to sit and watch tv and do the final buff when I was in the service.
Its easier than rocks, you'll figure it out quick enough.
Have a good day...............Tony

Just like Tony said. When my brother was in the Marines and boot camp...he used to 'spit' shine. Don't have to use your tongue...just spit away on them and rub it in. Not much fun shinin' shoes...Glad I don't have to do it. Steve

My dad, RCAF WAG WWII, had me spit on his. Then brush. Then spit. Brush. Spit. Brush. Drink water. Spit. Brush
Repeat ad nauseum or until Dad says they're good enough. Which could be a month from then.

Kevin - When ya run outta spit, finish 'em off with 50K diamond paste. And if they really get scuffed up, go back to the store for the Kiwi pre-polish. Rich

Man this just brought back memories of my dad doing this to his army shoes! - I can still see the rag that was blackened on his "shining finger" the way he used to wrap the rag around his hand - the polish & the little bowl of water he used... and me just sitting there watching him and him showing me how (although I can,t remember exactly how) What a flash back!

Kev - I remember my dad doing the lighter thing too. Always fascinated me.

you ought to buy that liquid shoe polish...much easier, no buffing, great shine.
I tried that when I was young, my Dad quickly put the Kibbosh on it. He actually made me a shineshine box (tried to get me to go out to make some cash with it too, but that's another humiliating story I'd rather not tell.

I always use a camel hair brush for the final buff- No spit needed- and brings out the shine like you would not believe!

I used to use cotton balls, take a cotton ball wet it then squeeze it all out then get a little dab of polish on it and rub in tiny circles over the whole shoe then buff with a flannel cloth, then do it all over again keep doing that until you can see the cracks of your teeth jn the reflection=one spit shine done.............Rocky
