I decided to cheat and post a picture of the cabs I have been working on this weekend. A few need a little more on the 1200 lap but they are just about ready for polishing...That is where I have problems but I am hoping this time will be the breakthrough. two more fell of their dop sticks while I was trying to take pictures. They got cold. Some are found rocks so I don't know what they are but I liked them. I just hope they shine up. Fran

Looks like your going to have a lot of finished cabs to post soon. What is that yellow stone? I really like the color.

Looking Good Fran! Sometimes you just have to post the 'soon-to-be's' too. I hate when the stones fall off the dop sticks. I have had problems lately with keeping mine on as well. Can't wait to see them all finished. Steve

Sitnwrap, the yellow is aventurine that I bought for tumbling. I cut a few pieces in half and worked them. it has a moh of 7 so it should be good all the way through. Fran

Looks like a good batch. I gave up on dopping and just freehand everything. Can't wait to see the finished cabs.

Fran, when you finish with those you'll be a master polisher! What kind of problems have you been having polishing? Tony

Hi tony, I am using a flat lap so that seems to be a little harder than the wheels but it is all I have used. When I get to the polish, the pad starts damp. I run it to let the excess water run off and I brush on the polish. The directions say to run it on the highest speed for polishing. My cabs tend to fracture, pit or fall off the dop sticks. I continue to wet the stone and check every few seconds now (after my first few attempts) and they came close to shining last time but I gave up and threw them in the vibe. This time, I have worked harder on each grit and I am hopeful they are free of ridges and scratches this time. I want to run a couple on the 1200 a little bit more to make sure they are done and then I will try it again. the last time I slowed the speed a little and it seemed to do better. Makes me wonder about the directions. Fran
