Wow!! Those are awesome cabs. I have often wondered about cabbing that stuff. I'm sure the pictures don't show the color flashes. Nice work.

Those cabs are beautiful. You did a wonderful job with the shape. Ammolite is such a beautiful stone.

The green and pink cabs are very interesting. Would love to see close up's of both stones. 49er

They turned out great! I have heard about using resins but I really don't know much about them. What kind of resin did you use and did you have any problems with it? Fran

Wow is right! Really cool material there... special stuff. Fine cabs too... I think the bottom one is my favorite.

Great shapes and an amazing material. I want to hear about the resin as well.

The resin I used is Nu-Lustre-55. I bought it on sale at Home Depot a couple of years ago. It is a two part resin that you mix and pour over a surface. It use to be popular for those really heavily cated bars and tables that were so popular years ago. I used masking tape to surround the outside edge of the ammolite, filled the well with the resin and let dry as per instructions. I then took the masking tape off and cabbed as normal. I used cerium on felt for the final polish. I have another sample somewhere where I used the resin and used it to bond heavy plate glass to the surface, much like a quartz cap. I then cabbed that as per usual. I like the glass cap better but can't seem to find it at the moment. If I wrap these pieces in silver, I wouldn't chance dipping it in silver cleaner. I think it would eat at the resin. hope that helps and thanks for looking.
