Quite awhile back, Texaswoodie (Curt) was nice enough to send me a generous sample of his "ghost wood." I am sure most of you will remember the great photos he posted of this unusual and spectacular wood. I have had so many irons in the fire that it took me forever to finally get to work on it, but here are a couple of freeforms I made out of this terrific fossil wood. The first one has been cut and polished by pretty much following the grain: And this second one is an example of the expanded cell structure you see when you cut it at an angle across the grain. I really love this larger cell structure appearance! Vance

Those are gorgeous cabs. I love looking a ghost wood. First time I ever saw this material was one of Texaswoodie's pics.

Excellent cabs Vance! I finally got to see someone else make a cab out of this material. I like the triangle especially.

Beautiful work on some special material! Did you have any trouble with it breaking up when you cut across the grain? Tony

Even though the ghost wood is not extremely hard, I only had one piece that broke and that was while I was cutting it on a trim saw. It broke on a fracture that was already present. All in all though, the material is very solid and stable. Really great stuff to work with and takes a terrific shine!

Yep... that's some beautiful material. So unusual... appropriately named. You did a fine job on those cabs! Outstanding.

That is beautiful material and you did it proud! The top one looks like it has a basket weave in the bottom of the stone and the bottom one has a wonderful shape and the pattern is wonderful! Fran

Superb Cabbing Indeed!
Those stones are incredibly beautiful, it's great to see how different folks go about the same stuff, and that cut's a killer! ;D Of course you don't get the wow factor from any old rough! Great team work! ;D
Cheers,
Sparkles.
