Ok, I know you guys probably hate this material, but I like it. I think this stuff is probably similar to Boulder Opal in hardness, and since it is much cheaper I thought it would be better practice to use this, plus it has the bling and glitz :othat I like, but man it was a pain to get all glittery. The photos are not so great, we tried taking them in the basement, but not so good, sorry I think this was the best of the day, as far as shape, and it is a beautiful stone. I wish I could have gotten it a bit more shiny. This is Guadalupe Poppy Jasper I think from Stoner. He will have to say for sure, but I think it comes from the mountains out in No. Ca. The colors are so beautiful in this, the red is bright red, and the gold is very rich, I LOVE this cab, and for the record it came off the dop, and I dropped it, not once, not twice, but 3 times while in the final stages. It is a miracle this thing is in one piece today. Those stones get hot using your fingers to cab. TonyW convinced me to cut my nails, so I did, hacked them all off, but still got a red manicure, well the belt took a big chunk out of my polish and nail since I was not using a dop and it got all over Tonyterner's belt, whoops, I am like a tornado of destruction. I don't know how he puts up with me. ENJOY!!

Love the fall color, the shape and the shine, Amber. Had to laugh at you talking about your nails, LOL, I have none left at all. Right down to the base and haven't worn polish in years! Beautiful job. Jo

The top one (in my opinion) looks very much like goldstone. Unpolished pile : Which of course isn't actually a natural rock but a man made crystal glass : Goldstone is a type of glass made with copper or copper salts in the presence of a reducing flame. Under normal oxidative conditions, copper ions meld into the silica to produce transparent bluish-green glass; when the reduced goldstone melt cools, the copper remains in atomic isolation and precipitates into small crystalline clusters. The finished product can take a smooth polish and be carved into beads, figurines, or other artifacts suitable for semiprecious stone, and in fact goldstone is often mistaken or misrepresented as a natural material. The most common form of goldstone gives the illusion of being reddish-brown, although in fact that color comes from the copper crystals and the glass itself is colorless. Some goldstone variants have an intensely-colored glass matrix—usually blue or violet, more rarely green—and a more silvery appearance to the suspended crystals, whose color may be partially masked by the glass or which may be based on different metals than copper (perhaps cobalt, manganese, or chromium). The manufacturing process for goldstone was discovered in seventeenth-century Venice by the Miotti family, which was granted an exclusive license by the Doge. Persistent folklore attributes the discovery and secret of goldstone to an unnamed Italian monastic order, giving rise to the alternate name "monk's gold" or "monkstone". Another name, "stellaria", is based on the starry internal reflections. Curiously, goldstone is one of the few cases where a synthetic simulant provided the eponym for the similar natural stone. The original Italian name for goldstone is "avventurina" or some similar word or phrase indicating its accidental discovery, hence the mineral name "aventurine" for forms of feldspar or quartz with mica inclusions that give a similar glittering appearance. Yet another name for goldstone is "aventurine glass", but this should be discouraged to avoid confusion with the minerals.

Really nice work! I would have to agree with Mel in that it looks like Morgan Hill Jasper. It is from the Almaden Valley just South of San Jose. Guadalupe is from nearby about 8 miles Northwest in the hills (now a landfill). Bob

I forgot to say that I did know it was goldsone and Tony told me it was glass, but I still like it. I had that civil war glass slag I liked too, I guess becuase the colors are so bright, and it is easy to shape. Maybe it is Morgan Hill Jasper? I know I was with Stoner in his front yard and he said it came from some place over in the mtns near him in San Jose. I wish the photo was better because it is so pretty the color is awesome in that stone, I wanted red for a Christmas time cab. Mel what is a good shiny red stone, like fire engine red? Rogue: thanks for the info on goldstone Mel and Bobby are the masters, so I will take their word on the Morgan Hill. Does it usually get shiny? This one didn't get so shiny, and I was sort of upset about that.

woohoo love that poppy! the goldstone is cool too tho! and Girl.. I hate to break it to ya.. I didn't want to believe it myself.. my fingernails were stylin .. then I became a rock hound .. and they went from fancy fingers to rugged scary digits.. the wheels not only keeps them trimmed past the first layer of skin.. so along with not being used to wearing gloves when I hunt rocks.. and playing on the wheels.. omg my hands look like lumberjacks hands now.. lol.. I don't even polish mine anymore.. unless i get to polish a rock then they get that nice glossy look for a day.. LOL jks..

That Jasper is awesome and you proved that it is indistrutable; Third time is the charm. The glitz in gold stone does grab the eye and you did a great job on the shine and shape with both.
Sorry to hear about your nails, somtimes sacrafices can't be avoided. Amber, you should see my nails, I use them instead of pliers when wrapping ;D

Adrian: Every rock that is shared and exchanged on here, is well cherished by me. I appreciate the friendships and exchanges that have been made on here in such a short time, this board is the best.

I know girls, it is hard to give up the long fancy nails, so I thought ok, at least cut them short, then the color came off on the wheel ughh...... thank God, Tony is not a violent man. I need to come up with cabbing gloves for women, like my golf gloves that have the holes cut out for nails and fancy rings, hahahahah.

Amber you are so silly. lol I could care less about your nail polish on my belt, I was more concerned about your manicure. You are certainly getting better at cabbing and you are obviously thinking about shape. Both of these have a pleasing shape. We will work on the shine to see if we can get it better but not all stones shine up like glass.

Try band aids on the tips of the fingers that get dinged most often - for me it's both my index fingers that get the worse abuse- my thumb nails sometimes get a nice buffing on the 15K diamond belt
I really like goldstone - it,s so blingy - it's kinda like glass I find - you did a great job!

I love the little jasper, Bejewelme...great shape. I've gotten really good at not destroying my nails. I hit the wheels every once in a while, but not often. Of course, I still can't grow my nails out, but at least I'm not bleeding anymore.

Man, to have that kind of power! I am humbled and empowered at the same time One of my all time favorite rings was a monks stone one. I wore it so much it was battered and scratched but still sparkled like crazy. YOu are doing so well, Amber.. now if I can just get you to do the super glue dop, I'll feel like my job is done Oh, and holding onto the stones would be a big help.. I though losing the nails would help that... but I know dopping them would stop it in a hurry. Tony
