Thanks guys, see I am trying to listen to all you experts: John: I keep plugging away, I was sad you had not commented Now I feel better TonyW- As the king of boulder opal, I had to heed your advice. I got rid of the nails, now must get rid of the red nail polish coming off on the belts!!! We are doing the superglue dopping, but they still popped, on the last belts. I did finish by hand, I just can't hold on!!! I think Santa is bringing me a dop pot, will see how that works.

Darlin', ;you might be bearing down too hard while holding too far up on the stick. I hold the stick down at the stone and use my thumb knuckle to steady the left side of the stone and my finger knuckles on the right side of the stick while I rock it round. If you hold the top of the stick and bear down on the edge of the stone it will pop. That is how I release my stones when I'm ready. And be sure you are using super glue gel! And put a match head size lump on the nail head. Don't short it on the glue. T

Tony: You are probably right on that. Tony was watching me cut the girdle and he said I have some wierd way of holding the cab, he sort of holds it at like a 45 degree angle, I tend to do it sort of upside down, and I am probably putting too much pressure on, not for long though.......wait until you see my post on Wed.

Morgan Hill jasper will take an excellent shine. Keep up the great work. Every cab looks bigger and better. Bob

I grasp the dop stick at about the middle of its length in my right hand (I'm right-handed) and cradle the cab in my left hand with my left index finger just brushing the wheel or belt. This takes almost all of the pressure of the cabbing activities off the dop/cab junction. I almost never have the dop stick separate from the stick (only happens when it is really cold in the garage). I use regular dop wax (for the last zillion years) but I don't use a dop pot. I use an alcohol lamp to heat the preform and dop on the stick. Bob

Bobby: Thanks for the input, and in a future post, you will see that an on-line friend here has sent me a DOP POT!!!! YEAH!!! Total surprise. I won't say who until I post the pics and write a proper thank you thread. Tony must download my photos. Needless to say I was thrilled and humbled.
