I had to share. This is the Moon at it's closest taken from the North Pole. That is the Sun below it. I thought it was breath taking!

I don't think that is the moon. Even at the north pole its only marginally closer to the earth than anywhere else. At its closest the moon is 220,000 miles and at its furthest its 255,000. That's only a 15% difference. Its more likely some kind of relflection from the sun in the cameras lens or its been digitally enhanced.

It's a great image but it is definately not a natural photograph.
1. The Moon is actually farthest away from the poles at any given time. 2. The Sun and the moon appear almost the same size in the sky even when the moon is it's closest to earth. 3. The moon was near full phase when it was it was it's closest to Earth recently, and only increases in apparent size by 10% from when it's furthest away from Earth.
