Well I got some time to cab last week and managed to finish nine during that time. I really tried cerium for the first time and got mixed results. It seems to work very well on some stones and do nothing or harm others. The agates and obsidian seemed to really do well with it. I ground the cabs to 1200 before using the cerium and those materials shined up like glass. The softer rocks I tried didn't seem to get any shine from it and a couple were actually harmed. Bejewelme's caddo wood cab developed a haze while one of mine, with mixed hardness, really undercut. Overall I like the fact that I can skip several belts if the cerium works. Unknown. Cerium undercut this one so I went back to the diamond belts and took it up to 14,000k. It shined up fairly well. This one will probably end up as a necklace for me. Another unknown. Cerium didn't shine up the darker half of this so I took it back to the diamond belts too. Unknown plume. I got this from Connrock. The picture doesn't really show the plume very well, too much reflection. Polished with cerium. I've since groove wrapped this one. Red moss. I think I got this one from Stoner. Polished with cerium. Backlit. Kyanite. Polished with diamond belts. Crazy lace. Polished with cerium. Royal Sahara jasper from Stoner. This rock was pretty pity. Guess I'd have to use Opitcon of CA if I wanted a better finish. Polished on cerium. Onyx from NMonyx. This is some really pretty material. I cut it along the lines rather than across the lines like you usually see onyx. I think cutting this way gives a more interesting pattern. Polished on diamond belts. Thanks for looking.

Tony, you got from Stoner not only some beautiful rocks but also the style of posting your cabs such as with every scroll down there's a new WOW! But man , when I came to that Crazy Lace I'm affraid to think about how many of my neighbours did hear my WOW!!! The RSJ also looks fantastic, like a lonely tree in the desert. Adrian PS. Thank you for sharing the polishing methods.

After all your hard work, it all paid off. I will have to remember that about the cerium oxide and soft stones not doing well with it. I just have the bottle stuff that came with the flat lap that I have been trying to use. Maybe that is why I am not getting a good shine...Could just be me too. I love the RSJ tree as well as the crazy lace and the moss and well, I guess all of them! Fran

Wow! Very nice work. The crazy lace cab is my favorite. The material in the first one is breath-taking!!!!! I've never seen a clear agate with that color in it.

Really nice material you are working with Tony. I like the first one. It looks like my Sulphur specimens.

That was a sweet bunch hon, the blue plume from Connrock is really exceptional, I am not always crazy about plumes and this one is really cool, the crazy lace is always a fav, the onyx and 2nd one down are really neat in person. My cabs still can't compete with my teacher's!! You know just because I can make my own, I still like ones from you, like the kyanite, hint hint!!! xoAxo

Those are awesome. That unknown yellew is really beautiful and so vibrant. You did a great job capturing that silvery shimmer in the Kyanite. Those two are my favorites but only because I haven't seen a lot of that material.
