I have them in a 20gl. tank now and in a couple months when the backyard pond warms up the goldfish in my 45gl. corner tank will go out in the pond then the cichlids will be in the bigger corner tank. I wish I wouldn't have sold my 55gl. tank last year... But there is always Craigslist..

Cool setup. I used to have cichlids, but they started getting a little too big. Now I have gouramis and a few other less aggressive types. I enjoy aquariums. Very relaxing. I get a lot of my fish stuff from Drs. Foster and Smith. Very reasonable prices for what I need.

Nice! I'm a HUGE fish person...with 16 tanks, some might even call me crazy! I love the color on Red Empress and the Ngaras. Those fish are going to outgrow that 45 in no time at all, though. I don't keep Africans anymore. I did for a while, but they never really got under my skin like the Central and South American cichlids did. Keep an eye on craigslist, definitely. I picked up a 210 gal tank last year with covers, lights, filters and a sump for $300...a steal.

Awesome cichlids!! My first tank was a 55 gal full of those lil' guys. There was a killer fish store in Los Angeles that had every variety of them. I bought them small, I must of had 18-20 of them.
They are so fun to watch as they are so active and always getting into it with each other.

I'll have another 55gl. by the time summer rolls around and maybe even a 120gl. Don't tell Marni though...
