We got a Nor'easter and I got a Snow Day!!! Mondays are always meetings with my boss and I drive, I call it driving Miss Daisey! So when the snow was flying he said stay put, your driving stinks in good weather, hahahhaa. It pays to scare him!!! So I was stuck at Tony's house, he works 1/2 a block away from his office, so he couldn't pull the snow day! So I had time, a basement full of rocks, and the good old cab machine!! So I decided to raid his stuff!! I said that darn boulder opal is so dirty I won't cab it at my house anymore, so I picked 3 pieces, one ended up snapping, but it had no fire anyway! The second I ground forever and had no fire, but the 3rd one gave me a little bling The best one: The worst one, one little skinny stripe of green, no flash! Polish Flint-This is so shiny, I hit it with the tin when I got home, but I didn't scrub it and now I see the results, so it is in the ultrasonic cleaner!I'm tired! PA Quartz and Kyanite This was a piece of the quartz that had the bright blue kyanite lodged in it! I didn't know how it would turn out, but I love it, there were pieces of pyrite and also little flashes of rainbow color at the bottom when you turn it! Very cool and neat that we found it! I would like if one of the opal gods could explain the different types of BO, these 2 both have a harder surface, the other one that snapped is really, really soft and has more of the pin dot color, how do you know the difference when you buy it? Could not drive to work, but made it to Tony's, eh! Damned snow anyhow, or in your case blessed snow, and a day cabbing. So, was work closer, or was Tony's closer? Very pretty cabs. I had a friend in OZ with a claim at CP....his theory on how to tell good opal was by the price if you were buying. Woody

What an excuses to stay home and work on rocks. The opal and flint are fantastic shapes.
Does Tony know your stealing his rocks? ;D ;D

Woody, love paves a smooth path in any weather. lol. That first bo has the coolest pattern in it and the Polish flint is stunning but that Quartz is   . I can see a bit of that rainbow effect. That has got to be gorgeous in the sunlight.

Beautiful, that Polish flint and the first BO are both outstanding! You're a master cabber by now.

Ok, all those cabs are gorgeous, but I was wondering what that smoky quartz would look like with the blue and boy, you had it done in no time. It's gorgeous, you sure don't disappoint! Jo

Tony lives an hour away from me, and I had a meeting near his place on Monday morning, so I told my boss I would meet him at the meeting, and I stayed at Tony's Sunday night, and slept on the couch of course!!! But then the snow came!!! Yeah!!! Yes Tony knows I steal his rocks!!! He says I can take anything that isn't one of a kind!!!! I let him steal mine too!!! Jo-I am making one of these for you as well, that kyanite is solid in there! You know how hard it was to chip out of the quartz! It is really a neat cab, I think you will like it!!! Tony was really surprised at how pretty it was!!! The little flash of color at the bottom was very cool! Boulder Opal- I just love this stuff but it is such a mess, and I have now worked about 3 different types! It is a gamble every time!!! Adrian- I am not a master yet!!!! But I really love it and am trying to perfect some of the problems I have! It was sort of nice using Tony's machine again, there are things I like about his and things I like about mine, good to keep learning on various equipment! Thanks guys! Amber

and slept on the couch of course!!! Hmmm, well who was snoring in my ear then? It must have been the cat. lol Besides I would never make a guest sleep on the futon, that's my bed when I have guests. I LOVE that quartz. We're gonna have to figure out a way of getting more off that boulder. Do you think the department of transportation would mind if we started blasting underneath their road? There has to be some way of getting a decent hunk off that rock.

Wow, Amber, you sure had a productive day! We got hit with that big storm yesterday, too. I stayed home, but got stuck in a book for most of the day...I neglected my poor rocks. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that quartz w/ Kyanite! What a surprise! You did a great job on that first BO, too...such a great pattern in that little guy, even without a ton of fire.

Well, the important thing is you made good use of your snow day (and night)! ;D I am still home with a bug Finally broke the fever yesterday and now all the aches and pains are gone. I just have this nasty cough and am so tired! Maybe by tomorrow I can get back to work. I love the quartz. Any time I try to cab quartz, it undercuts really badly! I have decided to get them to a shaped point from now on and throw them in the vibe to finish. That flint is spectacular! I love the patterns and I have heard that it can chip too so you did an amazing job! Fran

Those are my kind of Snow Days! I really like that Flint. How often do you grind on the BO stuff??? Does it take a lot of grinding before the Fire comes out??? One more question...was Tony Jealous??? Steve
