I wanted to make some cabs for Naturenut following our trip last Sunday. She had found a new collecting spot as well, and gave me some of those stones she found! It was late when I finished, and I am going away this weekend so the pics are not great, and they still have some tin oxide on them! So don't yell at me!!! Garnety PA Thing- This was my favorite! It has a cool rainbow effect in the quartz crystals, and the red looks like little garnets! Very cool! I asked Jo to go find more!! Kyanite in Quartz- like the one I did on Monday! This had not as much Kyanite, a perfect blade came out of it! But the quartz part has lots of rainbow effect! It looks all scratched but it is the crystals inside!! Love this, even more then the Kyanite itself! PA Moonstone from Naturenut's new location: It has a little flash, but still pretty! She is getting this grooved to make a groove wrap!!! PA Material- This is a piece of the stuff that Jo finds, I didn't have any cabs with the peach in it! And it has a sheen to it. This one's for me! Agate- this was from Catman's box-had a druzy hole right in the middle, love it! Zebra Agate???-My Mom wanted a piece of zebra stone, I was going through a box from Stones that Rock and found this, Mom loved it! Have a great weekend!!! Amber

Awesome!! The last one does in fact look like zebra agate. You said the moonstone has little flash, did you cut against the sheen instead of through it? I can't remember, did you ever see the pics that I drew on how to cut that stuff?

My word Amber, your pics and cabs are amazing. That looks like a Zebra stone but I never saw patterns like that in the white that you have in that stone. That one is just incredable. I would love to know what makes that rainbow effect in the quartz. Jo sent me one but it is a little too big for my wf but I love looking at it through my loupe. Have a fun weekend

Lori, I'll have to send some of this new stuff to you. I'm hot into quartzes now, and they're so cool. Maybe not facet quality, but for what we do, they can be amazing.
Found blue quartz yesterday and am hot for ammy today.
Amber, they're all so cool, but that first one turned out so much better than we suspected and I love the smoky kyanite.

Ooh, those turned out great! I really love the first one...the little flashes and the great garnet color. Can't wait to see more of that material worked up!

Great looking cabs there although your photos aren't up to your recent standards. I'm lucky as I get to see them in person. You must have been up very late last night to do that many cabs. The late hours were worth it.

I was up wayyyyyy too late, and the pics were taken in a frenzy this morning! Sorry I warned you guys! Jo is collecting today so I wanted her to see the stuff she is finding cabbed up! The quartzy stuff is really amazing!! Lori, I will make you one!!! I think cerium works better on quartz, so Tony, maybe we can try to shine them at your house! Amber

You got a lot of courage to work with difficult materials. That first one looks so crumbly, yet you managed to keep it in one piece and to put a super polish on it. Very nice colors, too. That's my favorite.

Haahaha I do sleep!!! I sleep like a rock, ask Tony!!! I can get by with little sleep due to my caffiene consumption!!!It is so late until I get my son to bed,and the chores done that I don't start cabbing until 10 or 10:30 and then the time seems to fly and I think OH MY its 2:00 am, and my alarm is going off at 6!!!! I can't stop myself!!!! Amber

Nice stones! They are all very unique and well cut. I agree with Adrian, the first two materials look very challenging. Surface fractures usually give me scratches. I bet opticon would seal most of the surface fractures. HPD

Nice work Amber! I like the first and last ones the best. I didn't really notice the tin oxide in your stones that you mentioned. However, it reminded me of what I did to resolve the cleaning of the polishing compound from my cabs and flats. I struggled for years getting the tin (or cerium) oxide out of the little crevices in my polished specimens. Then Chasfire asked someone down at Richardson's Rock Ranch how they cleaned up their polished spheres. When Chasfire found out, he bought a very similar piece of equipment online and told me about it, so Woodyrock and I each got one too, and it works great! It's a small-stream high pressure sprayer. You just fill the container with water, add 2 drops of dishwashing detergent, and it's ready to go. It's mostly used for garment cleaning, but it's a super tool for a lapidary! Here's the website I bought mine from: www.valleylitho.com/acatalog/Valley_Litho_Supply_Spot_Removing_Guns_503.htmlIf you do get one of these, just be sure to wear a thick rubber glove on the hand you're holding the stone with. I didn't wear the glove at first, and ripped part of my fingernail away from my finger! The beauty with this little sprayer is that there is no more scrubbing and cleaning with the toothpicks. Keep up the good work! Garry
