I've been super busy at work lately, working lots of long hours. Being away from my cabbing machine has really made me miss it the last couple of weeks, and I find my thoughts heading back to rocks whenever I get a spare minute. I finished these up over the weekend. Thanks for looking . This is a polished piece of chiasolite. I was super impressed by how well it shined up! This was a small chip off a crystal I found locally. We've got one spot near me with lots of it. Even the schist matrix shined up really pretty! In the light, it gives off the coolest silver shine. Pet wood: Some type of onyx (I think...it was pretty soft): Dino bone: Montana agate (I LOVE the subtle banding up near the top): Mozarkite (this one reminds me of a sea shell): And finally... Willow Creek: These were little bits that broke off during slab transit. This stuff is a dream to work. Takes an unbelievably nice shine, yet not ridiculously hard. I'm going to try to work up a bezel-set silver pendent for my niece out of this one. The size is perfect for her, and I know she'll love it...it has such girlie colors! And another:

Glad you had some time at the machine. I know what the long hours are like. Nice job all around but I gotta go with the second Willow Creek. Subtle colors yet stunning. Hope you get more time to play.

Sweet Cabs Nichole. I thought the 1st one looked like a Butterfly too! I really like the Dino, and the Wood almost looks translucent....but the Willow Creek cabs really are SUPERB! I can't decide which one I like better though. Steve

Love the Willow Creek and the chiastolite! You did do a good job on the polish on the chiastolite too. That material is not that easy to work at all. Was your crystal Chinese or Aussie stuff?....Mel

Was your crystal Chinese or Aussie stuff?....Mel Mel, the chiastolite crystal was from Lancaster, Massachusetts. I collected it myself. The crystals are much smaller than those I've seen from China or Australia...only about 1/2" across. The biggest one I've seen of the local material was maybe 1" across. I have a whole lot more to cut out of the base rock and polish...the little guy was an experiment to see if I even COULD get it to polish. I was very pleased with the result. It's much shinier in person than it appears in the photo.

I listen to my music and totally zone out. It's just me, music and rocks. I wish I were cabbing now, in fact!
