So I made peace with the brand new Swaptop flat lap, used it for several hours today taking a batch of rock through each step - waited a few hours and sat down to polish.
I managed to polish one obelisk to a lovely shimmer, then picked up the next rock in line and the masterlap disk was wobbling, so I turned off the machine to retighten the bolt, and the metal arbor was extremely hot to the touch and the master lap once again STUCK and wouldn't come off.
Waited a bit, turned on the machine to loosen the arbor - and nothing. No movement, no motion, no power.
Is it dead ? There's nothing I can do now, so it's sitting unplugged - part of me hopes it'll cool down and revive, but most of me thinks this unit is total crap.
What do you think?

There are brushes in the back of the motor on both sides. They are kept in by two plastic screws. Check to see if they are wore out. ken

Worn out after a total of 3 hours of use? Well, if I can ever get that master lap off again, I'll look for those and see what they look like, thanks

Are there one or two small plug (yellow, red, blue, purple any color I haven't mentioned) on the rear side of the motor? These should be oil plugs for applying one or two drop of 3-in-1 oil. Hope it is not fried.

Inland customer service number is 800-521-8428 ext. 306. They should help you. Their units have a two year warranty.

Yep, that motor is toast. I've boxed it up and will return the whole unit to Kingsley North where I purchased it, and see if I can get a refund. (probably just a replacement that I'll then end up selling on eBay).

Mine did the same thing. It is an easy fix. There is an overheat set screw in the side of the motor that pops if you heat it up too much. Just open up the yellow casing and pull out the black motor housing. You'll see the black plastic screw hanging out. It is attached to a spring. Just screw it back in and reassemble the motor..

Really? Well right now, I can't get the masterlap off, so I can't get the unit open to see the motor. Tried everything - even WD40 and a wrench! That puppy's stuck on there good and tight. I have to take it to work tomorrow in order to get it shipped back, maybe one of the guys can help me get the lap off.

any way you could pry it off with a flat bladed screwdriver? or even a butter knife ?? I havent had any problems with stuck laps .. you may want to take some sandpaper or emery cloth and give the hole a quick sanding .. if you decide to keep the unit or end up with a replacement one
