Many Thanks to Steve (Misguidedone) for his generosity in sending me this material. i'd been one of the bidders on his PIF Holley Blue but it got too rich for my blood. He ended up sending me a "runner up" prize, and while most of it is waiting for it to warm up enough for me to fill my saw, this little hunka-munka was ready to cab right out of the box. after THREE times of popping off the dop stick, i realized it was trying to tell me something (duh). so i freeformed it and here are the results, it's about an inch long from tip to tail: and here is a shot backlit, it's very thin: so thanks for looking, thanks to Misguidedone and thanks to MichaelJohn too! Beautiful cab, KD! The shape is just great. Should I understand you did it without dop stick?

Wow! what a nice cab. Rarely do you see such a large, fracture free piece of Holley Blue. The shape also frames the material well..

Very nice banding on that piece and a very pale color. The stuff I have is more purple. I rarely dop, it never seems to hold for me.

Very nice, KD! I think the shape really shows off the banding very nicely. And the color is gorgeous.

Beautiful freeform. I really like it. You did a great job, KD. I bet you enjoyed very much cabing that one in spite cab kept popping from dopstick. If you are doping your cabs by using wooden dopsticks (I use them) I found useful to apply a bit more superglue at the top of the dopstick, just beneath a stone. That way they rarely pop out. I think the reason for popping out is that wooden stick gets soaked with water and actually bond between glue and wooden stick unloose. Zoran

actually, i think my (green) wax wasn't hot enough, it takes forever to heat in my little electric pot when the air temperature is cool. i use (mainly) aluminum sticks and preheat those also. but sometimes find impatience wins and i end up losing in the end. also, i didn't preheat the water, so it was pretty cold.
thanks for all your comments, this is the first time i've tried to cab this material.

KD, I use wood dowels for dop sticks. The advantages are 1. They don't absorb much heat and 2. They are much easier to grip that wet slick metal. This last reason really helps for problems with tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Bob

That's a gorgeous Holley cab! Nice lace, great free-form, great polish. As you probably know, there is Holley blue and Holley purple. My preferences lean toward the nice lacey purples like this one. Some have both blue and purple in them and are even more rare than the single color Holley's. I wish I could have gotten into that area to dig some of this beautiful material when it was legal! Garry
