Another batch of cabs! 1- The eye - Wonderstone from Sitnwrap 2-Dino Bone 3-Poppy jasper 4-Unknown 5-Another unknown. 6-Star Rose Quartz...couldn't take a photo of the star under normal lights. 7-Calibrated Willow Creek for a pendant 8-Petrified plant material of some sort 9-Another unknown....would LOVE an ID on this stuff. It's pretty soft. 10-Ocean Jasper 11-Taxse Plume And finally.... 12-Laguna with Amethyst pocket The Laguna is a piece I got from Tony for our Christmas exchange. It was about a 5" x 5" piece of rough. I put it on the saw to take a little nubbin off to help me figure out how I wanted to orient it for cutting. You can imagine my amazement when that little nubbin of rock fell off to reveal this amethyst pocket. This is a pretty thick cab, because I wanted to keep the pocket completely intact. It polished up beautifully, and the rest of the rock is just as nice. I've already got plans for bezel setting this one...once I can teach myself to silversmith, that is. It's unbelievably sparkly in the light.

Your No. 3 Poppy Jasper is particularly interesting in a geologic kind of way. There is clear evidence of where a fault runs through your cab (at about 45 degrees) and has created a noticeable shifting of the rock's original banding pattern.
Very cool! There are all keepers, but the geologists will really like this one.

Very nice work. I am really impressed ith #8 and #12. The material in #8 is awesome! It looks a little bit like peanut wood. The cab has great depth. The real piece of work is the last one though. Being able to get such a nice edge shine on a cab with such a large druzy pocket takes skill..Every time I cut a piece with druzy something gets on my wheels and scratches everything.

Nicole that is a great batch, lots of favs there. You cab like I do, lots of different shapes. That pet. plant material is da bomb. If #5 came from me it is Palomino picture stone. The laguna is really cool, I've never tried doing a druzy pocket cab. You did a fantasic job on that one. The laguna that I sent you originally came from Mel as tumble rough. I haven't tumbled any of it yet but have been saving it to cab. I'm glad you got such a nice piece.

Nice batch of cabs. I really like them all. I like the dino bone the best, but I'm a fan of dino and montana. The laguna with the amethyst pocket is really ugly...you should send it to me so I can dispose of it properly, IN MY COLLECTION!

Those are all gorgeous! No. 6 really intrigues me because I've been collecting a long time and had never heard of star rose quartz. So I Googled it and found all kinds of interesting things about it, like the world's largest (5500 carats, from Brazil). You are getting a fantastic polish on your stones too!

Nichole, the "eye" and many other cabs in this batch are gorgeous! The dino bone is my favorite but the Laguna, the petrified plants and the OJ come close.

Oh those are beauties. That Laguna is just crazy with a color combo of orange and purple drusy. I think the only woman who can put those two colors together and make it work is mother nature. It's like you opened up the treasure chest . lol.
I love how you cabbed that Texas Plume leaving the top in the rough and that petrified plant has a killer pattern.
I had forgotten about the wonderstone. You chose a fun pattern in that little slabbett.

I just can't pick a favorite. They are all lovely! Did you have to pack anything into the druzy to keep it so nice and clean? Fran

That is a beauty and all your cabs are awesome! Yes, the Laguna was from your Tony. Don't be too hard on him. The rock just showed some cool banding on the outside...no reason to suspect the little pocket! The slab next to this one has some tubes! That was the very first Laguna I've ever cut, and I'm totally hooked now. I can see why folks like them so much! ;D

I've got to get some more of that, as well. I just had the one little slab. I wasn't even aware that it WAS star quartz until I got through the rough grind. It's beautiful material to work.

I just can't pick a favorite. They are all lovely! Did you have to pack anything into the druzy to keep it so nice and clean? Fran No, I don't use paste polishes or anything like that when I cab, just diamond wheels. So I don't have too much in the way of contamination. I do all of my rough grinding in batches and change all of the water out before moving on to the finer polishing stages. The water stays pretty clean. But Jack told me a trick to keeping druzy clean when you're cabbing something like this...soap. Pack the druzy pocket with soap flakes (you could just flake off bits of bar soap with a knife). After you're done, leave the soap to soak out, and you're druzy will stay nice and clean.
