Well with all the great advice I got from everyone I wasn't going to let those wheels win!!! So I re-did 2 of the cabs!! And tried some new ones!!! Tony was here on Saturday and we got an hour away from the kids for him to show me some tricks. Seems I was really holding the stone at an odd angle and not getting a good first cut on the girdle. The sweeping across the edge of the wheel was a real plus as well. Many of my slabs are so thin, I don' t usually have enough material for a high dome. I am trying longer, skinnier shapes, which are maybe a little easier than long and wide!! I would say I spent way less time on these then previously, but more productive time!!!! I think I tend to overwork and really scratch up the cab on my first wheel, so I am trying to let the 280 do the work.
Tried a new photo set-up, silly putty stuck to the back of cab on a jewelry box, so hopefully the cabs are not so tilted!!! Everything is a learning curve!!!
Bruneau-less crumbly and scratched?
HPD Slab-Unknown?? Less scratched?More ovally?
Larvikite-Love this material even more than labordorite! The edge looks scratched but it is actually more of the flashy pieces, really love this!!! This was what Texaswoodie was selling the beginning of the year!
Tahoma Jasper- Tony started this one to show me--I had to finish it up! This is from Woodyrock!! I love this piece, it is a sage green, very beautiful!!
Rainbow Obsidian-Nothing can knock you down like a skinny piece of obsidian!!! Can you see the rainbow across the bottom?
Faded out shows rainbow better and silly putty blob !
Sodilite-this was from Builtonrock in my Christmas box, never saw a piece so dark and beautiful!!!Love this!!!
African Brazil Cobra Tiger Jasper- Got this when we met Biker Randy a few weeks ago. He brought me so many beautiful slabs, and had one piece of this, I love it!!!!
Thank you friends for some great material, I hope I did a little better this time around!!
Enjoy!!!!
