It's a little slow here today, so I thought I'd open up a discussion about tools that you find invaluable in cabbing. Things in your shop that you just can't live without. I have two tools that I find invaluable: 1) Pinnacle Precision Mini Square - it's about 1" x 2" and about 1/2" wide. It's anodized aluminum, so it won't rust. It's wide enough that cabs easily fit up against it, ensuring you're getting a good reading on your girdle. This is a must-have tool for me for getting good square cabs or corners. 2) Husky 2.5 Gallon wet/dry vac - my least favorite cabbing activity is cleaning out my cabbing unit pans. The drain holes drain too slowly for my taste, the water gushes everywhere AND the trays never drain completely. So, I use a really small 2.5 gallon wet/dry vac to suck the trays dry. It takes me no more than 30 seconds to clean my cabbing units now. The little wet/dry is dedicated to cleaning out cabbing units only so it doesn't get full of dust or gunk.

You clean out your cabbing units? LOL! I guess I'm so in-experienced at cabbing that I don't seem to worry about a girdle-I just kinda grind around until everything looks rounded! What is the tool that the mini square is sitting on? It looks like something to do with bevels.....

KJ, the other tool that the little square is sitting on is a woodworking chisel. That just happened to be the first pic I could find of the little square. My hubby is big into woodworking, and I picked up my little square at Woodcraft, I believe. I'd been looking for a long time for a small square that wouldn't rust, and that little guy was exactly what I had in mind.

You're supposed to clean cabbing units? Just kidding. The vacuum is a great dea. I have a junky little 1 gallon one that would be just the thing. Thank for the post.

I thought the junk in the pan was to catch the stone when it flies? Favorite tool for me...well, I guess a good towel. That and my optivisor knock-off.
