Howdy folks, was digging through my cabs to show them to a school teacher friend the other day so I thought I'd take a few pics to post. I've posted some of these in the past but some, I think, are new. Thanks for looking anyway....Mel McDermitt ( used to be called Bryce Canyon Fantasy stone in the markets and African Queen ( used to be called Kalihari Picture Jasper) Oaxaca Picture Stone ( also Oaxaca Travertine, Desert Dunes Picture Jasper. Guadalupe Picture Jasper etc) OK here's one I'd swear was Willow creek if I hadn't cut the stones from the center of a Hauser beds thunderegg. And finally a couple of UFO's in Ojitos nodules ( Royal Imperial Jasper)

All of them are gorgeous but it seems the colors and the shine in the Royal Imperials cannot be beaten! The last one almost looks like having the irisations of an ammolith.

Nice cabs Mel. The first group is really cool. The Oaxaca Picture Stone is awesome. I'd like to find some of that. The Imperials are sweet.

stone: The lower stone is about 20X55mm the other is about 30 X 50 mm or so. The Imperials are a favorite of mine too. They really take about the best polish of anything I've worked, much like Bruneau...Mel

Wow, the Mcdermitt's are absolute museum quality cabs of that material. I'm stunned. One thing I really like about the top two center cabs is the faint white border of the canyon rock. It creates great contrast in the cab. This stuff is not easy to work either. I had a great slab of it fracture in several pieces while pre-forming it.

Great looking cabs Mel. Why don't you cab more? I loved seeing the McDermitt's as I just bought 20+ of "old stock" material for a really good price. I've only managed to cab one piece so far but it seems like nice material to work and it makes great looking cabs like these.

Very nice Mel. I remember you posting some of that 2nd stuff...oxaxac....whatever it is...a while back. A real wild looking slice. I like those Imperials too,...something I am still needing to try. Steve

Hubby made a cab of that first picture. I always wondered what the name of the stone is. All of your cabs are gorgeous!

Is the African Queen the one with the heavy red line? Picture Jaspers are definitely a favorite of mine!

Akansan: Yep, that's the African Queen. Used to be one of the nicer pictures jasper that was on the market for pretty reasonable prices but the Chinese have, in recent years, taken most the high grade production for making carvings etc. Too bad because AQ is fun stuff to work.....Mel
