I'm having a hell of a time getting a flat top polished up nicely. When I manage to actually get the flat top polished, the bevelled edges get a rounded edge at the top of the cab… I just can't win :help:
How do you get a nice flat top? Do you polish the top first and then grind the edges to a bevel? Or do you swear at the cab - like me - when your edges come out rounded. I have a 6" wheel and find it super hard to get the top to stay completely flat

I am assuming that your making an oval or round cab(a pic would be nice...lol). I do my mitered cabs with a flat lap. I would think that trying to get a flat surface using a round wheel would be very difficult.

From my experience it is nearly impossible to get a flat surface using only a wheel grinder.
Flat laps do the trick pretty well, although it helps to have the wheel too for rough shaping, as the flat lap is really slow when it comes to removing a lot of material.

No actually they're freeforms or angular shapes - the round ones also end up flat sometimes Sands did have a tut somewhere, he's a master of the angular cabs, but I just can't do them - I've seen one of his cabs close up and I'm still a-wonder

Okay, I have no experience cabbing whatsoever, so this may be worthless suggestion, especially if you use diamond: can you use the side of the wheel?
