Another day of high winds and short jobs. Cleaned out the slab bucket, even though it was not full. Lots of fun stuff in this one. This half of the picnic table is all material that Jason and I collected off of our mining claim a couple of weeks ago. Pretty interesting to see the variety of material that comes out of one claim. My favorite so far off of the claim this one is pretty nice, too and this one and these The other half of the table has lots different kinds of stuff Morrisonite in matrix, more matrix than Morrisonite, but what is there is cool Pietersite Bennett Mtn on top, the green on the bottom came out of the Morrisonite bucket, but after cutting it, I think it is Gary Green. Top row is pet wood, next 2 rows are Owyhee jaspers (notice the cartoon characters in the bottom right 2 pieces?) A really cool piece of wood from the Oregon estate, this stuff looks killer backlit Thanks for lookin.................Tony

Beautiful cuts, Tony! The dendrites in your favorite slabs are beautiful, indeed. But there are a lot of great materials there, too.

I don't know about everybody else, but I love getting on the board to see it's slab bucket clean out day! I have such saw envy I wonder about myself sometimes... This may be a silly question but when you have something in matrix like your Morrisonite - you basically end up trimming/grinding the matrix off when you cab it don't you? I assume it's softer than the Morrisonite - but it still looks pretty all mixed up together like that so was wondering if it's workable at all or just discarded.

Thanks Adrian and Shannon, I look forward to it myself, but sometimes I don't want to clean it!
Shannon, Some of the matrix is workable, some is not. If it doesn't chip off really easy I usually leave it, doesn't take much to cut through it, and you never know what you are going to find. Sometimes I leave the matrix in the cab, just have to be more careful with it. But I really don't do much trimming when I cab, I like to just pick up a piece and start shaping on it, I rarely cut any preforms. Most of my cabs are pieces of slabs out of the slabette bowl. Once in a while I cut one out, but not too often.

like matrix too sometimes, like on bruneau, everyone yells at me when I make cabs with it on, but I think it is sort of interesting and different! That Morrisonite looks cool, so that would be one I would try if it is stable, and the pietersite BTW-I was reading an article about pietrsite and it said it can contain high levels of asbestos, and that you should wear a respirator when cutting rough, just a note of caution!!! I was trying to find what polish works best on it, I decided cerium. www.kashmirblue.com/Coloredstones/Pietersite/psfacts.html
