I am having a bit of a problem. After wearing out the blade it came with while learning to use the saw, I put on a Husky blade which is working great. Saws through the slabs with ease. The problem I am having is that when I start tp trim out my preforms, the saw tends to destroy the rock. Usually splits off a section of the slab. I have stopped trimming down close to my marked lines, which is leaving me a good bit of rock to have to grind down to get it to shape. Am I doing something wrong? Or, do I need a different blade for making the final shaping cuts? I have read on here that many folks recommend the hotdog blade. Is it a bit smoother, better for making the trimming cuts? Or, am I possibly just getting in too big a hurry? I know that in some cases the fracturing is most likely due to a small crack in the rock which I didn't see. And, in some cases, it is probably just a charicteristic of the particular stone and slab thickness. Does that sound right, is this the way it works for you also?
Thanks for any help.

When I cut pre-forms (ovals), I cut slow and just outside the line. Remove many small pieces of rock with small cuts. I then use the blade edge as a grinder to smooth the cut to conform to the line. Using the blade edge as a grinder isn't necessarily a good thing, but it will work when your equipment is limited.
Chances are, your problem is with the rock, not you.

With a Husky Blade, I cut a good 1/8" outside the lines. That blade is very rough on your preforms. Definitely slow down and give adequate "chipping" room on the preform. Some rocks will be chippier than others, but it can be done. The Hot Dog blade (or other smoother blade) would probably eliminate some of the chippiness.

I was going to say the same exact think that she said, Husky is too coarse. Get a Hotdog blade and you'll have better luck.
