My son, Zak, graduated from high school a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, he's in Indiana so I couldn't be there for his graduation.
Although I always stressed the importance of education with him, and helped him in every way I could along the way, it was his own focus and determination that got him this far. He chose his classes carefully, did his work, made some very tough decisions, and overcame a lot of very negative obstacles in order to meet his goals. He says that he couldn't have done it without me, but quite honestly, I don't believe that to be the truth. He's consistently earned my respect and I'm very proud of him.
He'll be going-on to college in the fall.

It is a great day to finally see that your children are all grown up! It is also hard too! I am sorry that you weren't there to see him get his diploma but the important thing is the relationship you have! I sure hope you get some photo's soon! Fran

Thank you all for the good wishes!
Zak's been accepted at Indiana University East. He'll be starting there in the fall, studying music. I have mixed feelings about that, but far be it from me to even suggest that he not follow his dream. He plays guitar and bass guitar, and he writes his own music. He's a real wizard at that "Bach Rock" arpeggio sweep picking technique, which I introduced him to many years ago via Yngwie Malmsteen. He had said that he wanted to be able to play "like me", and I told him he needed to set his sights a lot higher if he really wanted to be good. I said, "The day you can walk on a stage and put this guy to shame, you'll know you've made it." ... seems he took that to heart. He's not nearly to that point yet, but I don't doubt that he can be if he keeps going the way that he is.

Congratualtions to Zak and to you Michael John. You were not just a great influence on your son but also inspired a love for music and ultimately a goal and that you believe in him. I don''t think any more can be asked of a dad or a son.
