Hi everyone,I'm about done with my homemade cabbing machine and I thought I would share a few pics. This shot was taken during construction, what a mess!!! I've been in industrial maintenance for over thirty years so I have an ever-growing pile of industrial junk in my shed.Everything you see in the pics came out of my personal junkyard so the only thing I needed to buy was the diamond wheels. The motor is off an old coolant pump and will be replaced eventually but it seems to be doing okay so far.The bearings are heavy duty and have hardly any use on them. The bearings are mounted on Uni-strut,I think this stuff has other names but that's what I know it as.I love the stuff, there are a zillion fittings made for it and you can make just about anything with it.I need to make a belt guard for it and finish the hood and get the plumbing done and I should be ready to cab.I have 80,260 and 600 grit wheels and I would really like some input on what I should put on the other side of the shaft.I wasn't going to paint the plywood board but my helper(my daughter,Emily) insisted so she did that last night, she was bored when she finished and volunteered to clean my 10 inch saw. What a great kid!!! Thanks for looking and I welcome your comments and suggestions. you have a lot of shaft there so plenty of room for more wheels, an expandable drum, disc ect... plus you could hook up another arbor and roll a barrel nice job !!

Hey Doc,no mud yet but there's some on the way! I dont have a full set of wheels yet so I've been cutting freeforms and preforms on the tile saw the last few weekends, about 150 or so in this pic.I have about 600 ready for the machine so as soon as I get the wheels I'll be ready to go! Mike

OK,My girlfriend got me the Nova wheels to complete the set.The hoods and splash pans are made from kitty litter trays I got at Walmart.I have some more work to do,I still need a belt guard and the kitty litter pans are good for now but I think I can come up with something better when I get some free time. But for now the unit works great and I've been having a great time learning how to do cabs,I recently posted my first cabs on the cab board. Satchel-the unistrut is 1 5/8 wide by 1 1/2 high Moondragon-my first cabs are on the cab board,I called the thread First cabs Ndk-I'm glad I could help with your flat lap, here's a pic of the cabber,Dr Joe wanted to see some mud so I took the pic after doing a Crazy Lace cab, nothing like Crazy Lace for making blood red mud. Thanks everyone for the compliments,Mike

Great looking machine and very nice work. Great idea with the kitty litter pans. Oh and I like working with Unistrut (I call it superstrut). I agree, it's so versitile and useful. I built a rock tumbler and a motor mount shelf for a workbench with it! Let's hear it for Unistrut! Steve

Baptized in mud... now it's officially a cabber!!!
Good work on the water trays, very functional.
That unit should give you a lifetime of service.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks for the info mudshark. While on my way home form work tongiht I saw this for sale on the side of the road. I paid $40 for it. I was in the process of making my own cabbing machine and this just got me a lot closer to that goal. It cam from a machinest and there are some nice machines parts on the piece. Like the adjustable arm and bearing lifts were made by the owner. Looks like some pretty quality work. Much closer to having my own machine ;D
