Found this yesterday. Its the biggest local agate I have found. You can't see it as much in the picture but it looks just like a brain. Do I lightly tumble it to keep the neat brain shape or cut it up and give it a lobotomy?

I vote to keep it as is. How many brains do you find laying around in the dirt? Jo

Do an MRI first, then maybe a CAT scan. Then you will have enough information to make a decision.
Tony PS- Looks like a petrified monkey's brain.

Nah, it doesn't take much brains to figure out that this one needs to be left intact.

I'm not much of a tumbler. If it were mine, I'd cut it in half and face polish the halves.

I would take an end cut off the bottom. Then you can decide if its better left as is or cut up.

I agree with Brent, take a slice off the bottom, this would allow you to see what is inside and make a better base for it to stand on.

Brains don't matter, looks are what counts. Cut it and see what it looks like inside!

Did you decided what you were going to do with it?

Kind of thinking of playing it safe. Tumble first, then if I don't like it, start slicing.

I would be hesitant to cut. If those fractures aren't well-healed, you'll just end up with a pile of shards.

Gotta cut it in half.
The ones that are occasionally beautiful as found, like a nice big bright banded laker, those can be great specimens just as they are.
Ugly agates however, they gotta get cut, hopefully it's fantastic inside!
Cut and post pics asap!
