Finally, I will actually tumble...
I bought a Thumler Model B at William Holland last week and have a new belt and tumbling grits in the mail.
I'm a complete tumbling noob who will gratefully accept any suggestions not having to do with body parts/functions.
I have a large box of Ocean Jasper pieces which will be my first tumbling project. After that, a bucket full of castoffs from trimming for cabochons will follow. More to come.

Welcome Steve!
For your first tumble, I would start with something easy like agates. There is a definite learning curve and I'd hate to see something happen to your OJ as you're learning to tumble.

I learned a lot from this site, but the 2 things that stick out in my mind are that you do not need to follow the boxed directions with your tumbler. The longer you have them in the rough grit, the better. The other thing I learned is that when you finally do get to the polish stage, mix the polish in hot water before adding the stones, this helps to keep the polish from "gumming" up on your rocks. I'm a newbie, so that's about all I know! Marie

Bob,
Good week at WH! I had five students; by week's end, they were all confident and productive. One of them cut over 60 cabochons for the week. I should have production like that!
And I got a tumbler while I was there!
