Yep, it is best to use it outside because even if you don't get a lot of water all over, the sediment will get into your drain and the fine mist of powder will settle on your walls, cupboards, etc. More water helps the blade also because if you run it too dry, it will ware the blades out faster. I put an 8 inch lapidary blade on the tile saw I use for a trim saw and I use saw oil instead of water. When cutting a piece too thick to fit under the splash guard, I cover my hands and the stone with a trash bag with a few slabs or rocks on the other side of the blade as the oil spray will push the bag off if it is not weighed down. I use the saw year round in my shop. Buy a laboratory acid apron to keep the oil spray off your clothes and a big piece of cardboard on the floor to keep the floor fairly clean....
