After going to the rock swap in Sheboygan yesterday, and seeing there was only 6 vendors there, I was a little disappointed. Although I did buy one little rock for 50 cents, so it wasn't a wasted trip lol. When I got home I decided I needed a little rock therapy. I cut a slab off the rock I bought, which I have no clue what it is. The guy said he picked it up near his home. He said he lives in S.E. Wisconsin somewhere, I just don't remember exactly where. Here's the cab from that slab. It was a pleasure to work. Not too hard and not too soft. It didn't take a super shine, but it's not a matte finish either. I really like the healed fracture, it gives it some character, and has some glittery specks in it. There's also some little blue (quartz?) bits on the left side. It seems to be some sort of conglomerate, and smelled a little like swamp mud when I cut it. If anyone has any ideas on what it may be, please let me know. Here's the other one I worked. It's a beautiful piece of agate I got in a box Amber sent me. There's a lot of beautiful rock she sent me. My wife liked this piece and asked me to cut and cab it just like this, so off I went... I never knew a white stone would be so tough to photograph! I bet it took less time to cab lol! I worked 2 others, but I can't show them, as they're super secret for now... Thanks for looking! Nate

Too pretty! I've never seen such white agate. I know you got it from Amber, but what is it...where does it come from? Susan

You gave that white cab a super shape and shine. I don't know what the black one is but, as you said, it sure has a lot of character. It's neat that you noticed the odor of the rock. I don't lick rocks but I do smell them.

Lol, thank you sitnwrap. After how that rock smelled, I'm glad I don't lick them either.
Susan, we'll have to see if Amber chimes up again. I don't know where the agate came from. I'd guess it's a type of waterine agate, because the lines are perfectly parallel.

Very nice job on the cabs. The first one has great shape and a well formed dome. That is definitely a hard shape to get good symmetry and you've done it well.

Mary Ann - Thank you. My wife wanted it cut like that. She's got good taste lol.
Dan - Thank you too. That shape was actually somewhat easy for me. I make these on a flat lap, so it's the rounds that give me more grief.
Don - LOL, thanks. The super secret package will be drifting in your area of the country eventually. I'm sorry to say it won't be having a lay-over at your place though.
