Ok, so I'm not tied up like Ralph, but I am really enjoying working these rocks a little every day. I've moved up from 1 at a time to 4 now. Here's 4 more I've done (oh wait, 2 are super secret again...sorry lol) First up will be a piece of the mahogany obsidian I picked up at the swap in Steven's Point. This is for a bracelet for my wife. I really like how the mahogany inclusions have an almost tiger eye like sheen to them when viewed just right. I thought I lost it during the doming, but saw it again while getting ready to photograph it. Wish I could get it on "film"... After finishing I see I really just need to toss this and re-cut it, as there's a fracture and some pitting. Or maybe superglue will be my friend here... Then I did a piece of the thunder egg I cut and face polished earlier this summer. I cut this little slab off and basically free formed it to smooth out the edges. A lot of the outer material crumbled off, so I had to make it more oval. I got a little undercutting from the polish too. Kinda disappointed me... Thanks for looking! Nate

Nate, those both look nice to me - I hope you can superglue the mahogany - would be a shame to recut it and mess up the shape. (If it were mine, I'd call it "DONE"!, but then, I don't have a wife to give it to, either!)

Those are both beautiful. I can get a bit fussy so i might try the super glue. I wouldn't cut it again, for sure. Its a great shape.

I love that Obsidian and the pattern placement you did. I bet a little bit of Super glue will fix that fracture up as the stone is gorgeous for a bracelet. I hope you post the bracelet when you are done.

I like them just the way they are. Maybe the super glue for the scratch/crack area and polish again. They are just beautiful! Fran

The obsidian is really a nice shape. I use superglue with great success, hopefully it works for you.

Thanks Jack. I've seen others use little easels made of wire, so I bent one up from some copper wire I had in the garage.
So the super glue didn't work. First off I put too much glue on, so when it dried it was all wrinkly looking. No big deal, I'll hand sand on my worn 600 SiC disk. Well, that wore through in the top of the dome, so I scraped the rest off with my fingernail hoping it would stay in the crack. Must not have, as after polishing again it looks the same.
My next idea is to take it back a few steps and grind down the dome a bit. It looks as though it's just a deep scratch, so I'm going to see if I can't work it out.
Once again, can't make it any worse lol.
