I'm trying to think of some things our very new rock club (6 months old) can do this winter. I was thinking maybe getting some of those buckets of sapphire gravel. It might be fun as at -40 we are not going collecting outside. Anyone ever try it? I was looking at the unsalted "monster mine" one for $95. www.sapphiremine.com/html2/products.php

While I have never brought any gravel from these sapphire mine, I know some who have. If you're looking for a way to have a little fun panning them out, it's not a bad idea at all. Just don't think you're going to get rich and find some enormous sapphires. And by the way- a lot of these places that sell these bags get the salted sapphires from overseas so they may not have even come from the location stated.

Thanks Steve. Were not looking to get rich, heck even a faceted sapphire isn't worth all that much. Just looking at ideas for our rock club, so we can do something indoors this winter.

Sounds like it would be fun and if you can get a hold of some mine owners, maybe you can get some better stuff for your club! Fran
