Hi all, Here's some quickie cab photos for you.....not the best pics but I figured you'd rather have crappy pics than no pics. ;D I can only take about 25% credit for most of these. I preformed/rough ground some of them but Den did ALL of the polishing. Agate Creek Agate....one I started for myself when I was a rank newbie cabber, never was brave enough to finish it. Dennis put a wicked shine on it. Its going to Dee so that she can do her wire sculpting magic on it. You'd have to pry this one out of my cold, dead hands LOL. I got these slabs/rough from Shain (freeform) From my favorite chunk of opal wood Dino bone (backlit also) & Polish Flint Carey slab from bobby1, thanks Bob! Slab from stoner, thanks Ed! Locally collected material from Jo (naturenut), thanks Jo! I was having trouble getting any kind of a polish on this so I had Wolf work his magic on it. A special one! From a moss thunderegg collected by myself and my youngest daughter Lillie on our first trip to Richardson Ranch, and of course, given a super liquid-like polish by my honey. Its a family cab! A misc. one Oooooh, I dont think I will be able to let this one go. Super shine, super moss and a nice little bit of sparkly druzy at the top, one of my faves! And a few Dennis started when he was in Vermont, and finished up when he moved here. Ochoco moss that I sent him Another moss Lace Think I may have posted a vid of this but its too pretty to not include here. Labradorite Thanks for lookin!!! Shan & Den

Beautiful cabs Dennis and Shannon! That Agate Creek has got to be my Favorite! Next in line is....Moss Thunderegg (the Family one) and the 1st Crazy Lace. So...what's your super shining polishing technique Dennis? You have given each one of those a shine to drool over. BTW...you two make a Great Team! Steve

Thanks Steve & Bob .... ummm first i guess i should say that I use a flat lap ... I use a lot of steps starting with 100 then on to 325 , 600 , 1200 , 3000 , 8000 , 14000 diamond laps then 50,000 diamond paste and even 100,000 if i feel it needs more . I have tried skipping steps but it never seems to work out if i do, so I have gone back to mega steps. I guess when one finds what works its best to stick with it. I do spend a lot of time on the 1200 more so than any other stage .. making sure there are absolutely NO scratches .. I do get a tiny bit anal on that hehehe .. i even use a 30x loupe to double check myself. I also have Shannon look at each one before I call them finished.
Thanks everyone for looking Wolf

Unbelievable rock show - Hard to pic favs. but the one with the druzy and the two lace are very nice. Karock.
BTW, when you do this on the flat lap, isn't it an art form of feeling? You can't really see so you feel as you "rock" the dome right? I have a 6" flat lap but I have never gone past 170, I tumble the rest of the way. Do you have just one Flat lap or a series?

Thanks everyone
Karock , we only have the one flat lap machine, Ameritool , so I have to change laps for each step. It does take a bit of ''feeling '' but that comes with practice , I also tend to lean over so I can see where the stone is touching the lap sometimes ... on the more persistent scratches

Holy macaroni! You guys need to put a warning flag on the title so I know when to cover my keyboard! Gee, what a collection of stone-turned-to-art that should be in a gallery! No favorites except all of them.

Thanks Dennis. All those extra efforts and steps sure pay off with a brilliant shine and perfect cabs. I wished I could learn to be a bit more patient myself....the camera always points out the scratches in the pics. Steve
