Today, I put my heart into it and finished side 1 of these 20 dopped cabs. Next I need to freeze them off the sticks, turn them over and dop the other side so I can finish side 2. I'm a bit disappointed in a few, but for the most part, I'm happy that I'm sorta getting the hang of using the Expando and polishing disc. Get ready for some pics!
This first one is for Jo's (naturenut) enjoyment - she kinda forced me into taking a shot at some moonstone. This is a piece she sent me that she tumbled, and I reshaped and am working it on the expandos.
This is some kind of onyx - I've reworked it twice now, and it's really getting thin - too thin to work any more.
The next 3 are little flourites - I thought I'd try them and learn. Why not? I did learn that the expando can eat flourite for lunch!
These 3 are jade - I'm not a geology taxonomist, so that's all I can tell you about them, except I like the material.
This is a big, thick chunk of what I believe is picasso jasper - it's going to be the insert in a belt buckle, I hope.
This one is, I think, Owyhee. It's about 7/8" long.
This wonderstone, on the other hand, is around 4" long - I plan to just display it in my curio cabinet.
One of my favorites - Kambaba jasper
I'm thinking this has to be some kind of pet wood - palm, maybe? It's hard as iron!
Another favorite, unakite. This is the 2nd time through for this cab.
This was a sliver of rhodonite that broke off of a slab in shipment.
2" of Montana agate
Very thin, 1" long piece of one of the various picture jaspers.
The next 2 are the same cab - to show the defect I discovered the 3rd time through the expandos. I don't know what the stone is.
Another that I think is pet. palm
And, finally (a loud roar rises from the crowd), one that I loved to death, broke it on the expando, and then kinda ressurected it from the ashes. What I believe to be amazonite with either mica or pyrite inclusion - I don't know how to tell the difference.
Th-th-that's all, folks! As always, thanks for looking and indulging me, and thanks for any and all comments along the way.
Your faithful servant,
Tom
