After playing with my Obsidian for the past few days I decided to utilize a special effect that you can get from the Davis Creek material. Much of it has rather thick (up to 1/2", or more) layers of a single color where the color has a "filament" characteristic. By making a thick (3/8"), long, narrow cab with a high dome where the fliaments go across the narrow dimension you can get an eye effect. As you rock the cab back and forth the eye will move across the cab. Here is the cab. It is slightly over 3" high. Bob

Wow. That is some kinda jewel-like piece of obsidian! I'm beginning to start to think maybe I like obsidian, after seeing pics like this, and some others with a gazillion different flavors - I used to think obsidian was just black lava glass. You sure captured that one, Bob!

Fantastic! I have a piece of that, but didn't think it could possibly be obsidian. You did a great job on that piece! Jo

People tend to turn their noses at obsidian, especially when they thick its just some ugly black volcanic rock. Then they see some rainbow, or some green or purple Davis Creek and their opinion suddenly changes! That one is beautiful Bob. I think my very favorite Davis Creek is the green that you once showed. You know, the one that your grandson decided to "tap" on out in the yard and it shattered? LOL At least you were still able to make use of it.

It is mezmerizing in the pic, I can just imagine what kind of hypnotic state it could cause in the hand while being rocked back and forth.

  I just don't know how you do it. Every time you post, I think you just can't get another to look that wonderful and then you do it again and again! I missed the green one before I think so I am glad you showed it again. WOW! They are both so beautiful and if you have any tips on how to work it to its best, please share! I have some plain stuff but I have not worked on it yet because I am afraid I will ruin it. Fran
