Calling it that because it is a mixture of stuff. First up is Mariposite, a lace, and Unakite Idontknowite that I got in the "World Pile" on my last trip. Next are two Autumn Unakite given to me by my friends Rob and Vicki. Next is a metamorphic something from the woods in my backyard (giving to my neighbor this Christmas because it came from her property). Two Red Beryls from Smedley Beryl Park. They are in pegmatite and needed some stabilizing. A do-over from Randy. I've been hounding some local Jasper and Agate lately. This is one of my local Agates. One of my moonstones, this one has a cool mango color. Last week we went to a local park that had a lake and watched the peaceful boaters as the breeze blew and the sun shined. I stuck my feet in the water and pulled out some blue quartz. Mr. Mantis stopped by for a cup of tea and I noticed he had his fall Halloween colors on. Yes, the bandaid is from cabbing! Just wanted to report a Green Man sighting in my back yard. Wait... that's not green man, Bill was slabbing in the back yard and it's............................................... ROCK SNOT MAN !!!! Thanks for looking! (yes, I saw the scratches and I'm working on it! - Thanks John!) Jo

Jo - those are all nice - I really like leaving the vugs in - gives the stone more "character".
But I'm a bit confused - remember, I'm a slow learner. I understand the first 2 pics are of mariposite and lace, and pics 5 and 6 are unakite, but what are pics 3 and 4? The combination of pastel green and pastel lavender on pic 3 is very nice, but pic 4 makes me scratch my head. I like the stone, but to me it looks like a mixture of something like jadeite and something like flourite - quite striking, actually.
I'm really trying hard to make a piece of the moonstone you sent me come out looking like the one in these pics, but so far, no joy. I'm gonna keep on keeping on, though.
I think, though, my favorite of this batch has to be the do-over. Or the mantis - a lovely creature!

Blue Quartz arises from peaceful moments in the sun.
Now that is icing on the cake! Making cabs is about much more than rocks! A favorite post for sure...

Beautiful pieces, but like Tom I had the same questions about 3 & 4. The law of attraction is in force, you are drawing beautiful pieces to yourself like a magnet. Karock

Scott, in this spot on the lake, the blue quartz has pockets of "mud" that look purple/pink-ish when viewed through the blue quartz. Turns out a very cool looking contrast. Tom & Karen, I hear ya, my fault for confusing you- it was a brain misfire. They are Idontknowites from my NJ trip. I originally said that they had a Ruby in Zoisite look to them, but was not sure on that. It's a pink in a pastel green, that also has a darker green. Here are pics of the rough rocks, a few slabs (the ones on the left are the Idontknowites), and the preshaped cabs. The cabs in pics 3&4 are the one on the top-right (cab broke, this is what survived), and third in from the left on the bottom row in the preshaped cab pic). Well Tom, one of the things about this moonstone that I've been lucky enough to find and work (and one of the things that fascinates me so), is that each rock, each slab, each cab is so completely different. They differ in hardness, their makeup and have mineral inclusions that make even the experts scratch their heads, but they sure are pretty. So, you just keep working with it Tom, you'll get it! Can't wait to see! Haven't worked all of my "World Pile" cabs yet. We had a quick house showing and I had to sweep them all into a coffee can with the rest of my preshapes, and I haven't found them all again yet. [shaking head and laughing] Thanks everyone for your awesome comments! Jo

I gotta stop giving that stuff away ;D lol (kidding) Those all look great! The blue quartz is too cool, you should get a rental car and put 1000 pounds of it in the trunk.

Randy, what? That's crazy talk! Who in their right mind would do a thing like that? ;D Thanks again everybody. The day at the lake was so peaceful. Kids were back at school. So it was all adults using their kayaks, sailboats & cats. Some were launching, some were coming out of the water, some were slowly floating by. There were people on benches, walking, securing boats on top of their cars, and just sitting with friends- but there was this deep air of peace and quiet among all. I've been there a bunch of times hounding for blue quartz, and except for the time I fell in, this was the most memorable.

Jo, those cabs are beautiful. The cab above the Unikite has an amazing dramatic pattern in it and I see a person in the one below the Unikite.
Just a great group of cabs.
