Here are my first attempts at making a yin yang. The first one I tried turned out pretty lousy. Its imperial jasper and it was very chippy. Amber picked out the rocks and marked the slabs for me as I suck with color.
My second one is of two different types of Kambaba jasper that stonesthat rock gave us. Ralph and Maryanne actually gave us three different types. Again the design was Amber's.
I got some stinkingwater plume agate from gem97845. I have to say that I love this stuff and its certainly at the top of my favorite rocks list. Here is what it looks like as a plain cab.
Nice but not overly exciting. Fortunately I decided to try some doublets with it. I had only done 3 or 4 before so I'm not real versed at doing them. I don't have a flat lap but fortunately the slabs Glenn sent were very smooth and even on both sides. I came up with the idea of adding a product called Pearl-Ex to the epoxy. Its a pigmented powder made from mica stone and it comes in some pretty vibrant colors. Here is my first attempt with it. (I did post an informal pic of this one before)
Here is my second attempt. One of the things I like about the Pearl-Ex is it has a metallic flash from the mica. I'll have to try and take a video of one sometime.
The plumes are pretty dense in this rock so I ground the top layer down to less than 1/32" in thickness. I've since glued up 8 more doublets, some using Pearl-ex and some on black obsidian. I'll get them posted soon as I'll be finishing them up with some other cabs this weekend.
