You'll have to forgive some of my scratches, it's been a very, VERY long times since I found time to cab! The Gem show was the last weekend of September and I volunteered myself and the kids to help out - the kids at the demo tables and me at the Titan for around 3-4 hours. Since there were two of us on the titan, I didn't get to do as much cabbing as I wanted (I got the invitation to cab at the last minute) and didn't have much material ready to cab and could only use one side of the cabber at once and not necessarily in the correct order either. I managed to freeform cab a small piece of labradorite - this one's gonna be a pendant
This is ulexite - also called "TV rock" - you can see the text through the top of the rock - pretty cool! (I'm reading "The Lost Symbol")
Sorry this isn't in the right section, but I've been looking for this stuff for ages! - it's rutilated quartz (smoky quartz - not my first choice but it's clear enough to see the gold rutiles - and it's the first time I've managed to get my hands on some rough) - it's less than 1" square and cost me $10 - I'm thinking of cutting it to make two triangle shapes - any suggestions?
Now for my "at home cabs"
Two cabs from the same small piece - some sort of light aqua moss - on the second piece, the bottom was left more or less rough
This is the first piece of imperial jasper that I've cabbed that doesn't have some sort of surface fracture, the bottom is smooth, although it looks rough - I love this stuff
A piece of picture jasper (I've been away for a while, please correct me if I'm wrong - which i probably am) - this stuff I always thought would never take a beautiful shine cuz it's so soft - surprises me every time with a glossy shine!
A piece of mookaite - it's got scratches that I thought I had ground out - it,s gonna go back a few steps in the next batch I manage to cab
This is a piece of beautiful moss that I got from one of Jamie's packages - I love mosses! - the shape was inspired by Sands' beautiful cabs - although I haven't yet mastered the flats, this one turned out scratchless on the top surface (which is really hard to do on a 6" round wheel)
Thanks for reading my long-winded post and for any comments or suggestions. Like I said, it's been a really long, LONG while since I sat & cabbed - I'm glad I found time
