from a show Sat. price was better than recent comparables on ebay. the red, blue, gold cost the most - but it really appeals to me. the red are very solid, but a bit dark. the white webbing really shows a little better than the photo.

Dan, Solid, colorful and well defined cells in those slabs. Where was the show you were at?? Would you mind me posting a few slabs of mine on your thread? My favorite is that top left one. Steve

Steve go ahead and post. I have some more and I will add themrather than start a 2nd thread.
Yes the top left is the red, blue, gold I mentioned. It is very solid, and over 1/4" throughout.

This endcut is from ebay. I have cut out the parts that are too thin to be useful. I wanted a bolo with an upwards fan pattern in the webbing. The thin spots make that impractical. There is a solid thick oval about 2.5 x1.0, and some other areas for smaller cabs.

How was the Topeka show overall? I've never been to one of them and work makes it even harder for me to attend. Is it primarily specimens and slabs, or are there tables with equipment and rough rock there as well? I really wanted to attend just for the heck of it, but I work toy retail and we all know what that means this time of year for me. I've already taken a picture of myself and framed it for my wife to see, since that's the only way she'll see me untill the middle of January. LOL That last picture is very nice!

Here are the rest of the pieces I got at the show. (My scanner is broken and they did not look right when I scanned the ones above.) There are a few cracks. I will use a lot of superglue. The small one is about 1.2x1.0 and was a buck. All of these were a buck or two. Jayhkr - It was OK. There was a little equipment and rough, mostly slabs, but a very small amount of tumble and slabbing. If you took the time to look close, there were unfinished things worth buying. Of course, after I passed the table, they should have lowered the prices on what was left. I felt bad for the guy who was picking over the small dino bobe bin as I was checking out. There was more tumble polished slab and slabbette than I am used to seeing. But, they were priced similar to rough slabs, 50 cents to 4$. So I bought some to recut, and I bought some to send to my sister's kids, who are just starting to learn the rock names.

Here is a huge slab that was one of the 1st quality picees I bought. Last year at the Salem OR club's show. I am loath to pay $25 for a big slab, because some of the cost is for size, and I will likely cut it up anyway. Still, per square in this was an OK purchase. The thing is 10" x 6". I want to get a 2x4 tile with the white stripe, but can also see a bolo in the red area, and the yellow areas look better than the photo and should give a handful of nice teardrops.

Wow! You did it again! Picking the cream of the crop I mean. All these sellers have to lower down the prices after you bought from them, don't they? Adrian PS. Is the oval cab a real one or a virtual?

Hi Adrian - cabs are still virtual. Hope to have the saws set up in the next 3 weeks. Grinder in the next 4 weeks. Here is one from ebay that was a disappointment. I knew it was an endcut and the seller only tells the thickest point, but usually there is not too much less than 3/16" because it would have broken long since. This one had a lot of very thin edged. It is about 2.5 x 2, and I show on the right the thin bits masked off. There is no possibility of a bolo remaining, but I think I can get this attractive fan. I do not have much idea about what kind of bail would work for this shape however.

Here are some more recent ebay buys from 2 different sellers. I am hapy to have the material, but betweenthe bidding and the shipping, the value is only average. I have to rely on my eye to boost the value with my cuts. all of the red ones are over 1/4" thick and can use a little stabelizing. The black one is just under 1/4" and is very solid. Iy is about 3.2 x 1.75. Bolo in there somewhere.

Here is more recent ebay. Many from orchids9. There are some tapers that will make the final pendant smaller. I will get a lot out of the big red one, there are only one or two places along the edge that is less than 3/16" The golden one will lose about 1/3 of the area and the black one in the top left will lose 1/8 inch off of each side. A virtual bolo cab:

I have 3 more small ebay slabs and 2 more big ones that came from RiverBendLapidary, but I am too weary of scanning and uploading right now.

Dan, You did mention something about the Dino Binge! Have you gotten any help for this yet?!?! ;D Boy...you are buying some excellent slabs of Dino Bone. Your virtual cabs look very nice and can't wait to see some of them finished. I really like that Pink adn Green one. I don't know if I have any that will add to this thread. You have covered a huge variety of colors and patterns in this one thread Dan. I'll see if I have any that are worthy of adding to this thread. Thanks for the PICS!!! They are really amazing. Steve

OK, here are the ones from RiverbendLapidary. From the visit this Aug with my sister and her kids. These are pretty big. They cover the full 8.5x11 area of the scanner.

The last dino bone I know of having. Except for an unfaced chunk I can't find. These are less agatized and may not polish. The small ones are almost 1/3" thick but will need stabelizing. About 4"x1". The big oval one is about 2.75x3.75 inch.
