Since today is nice and cool (59 degrees) with wet, slow rain falling all morning, I decided (because I have no common sense ) that it would be a good time to go out there and finish these 8 cabs. I guess I might have picked a better day, but what the heck, we only live once, right? LOL! ;D
Anyway, here they are in all their mediocre glory:
Unknown, pretty hard, takes a nice polish that's hard to see due to the vague coloration. It has cracks, pits, etc., but they are a natural part of the stone (I can say, "GOD did it!"), so I left them there.
A little tiger-eye. Love this stuff!
Unknown, but may be St. John's Flower. I managed to chip the top left side by dropping it on the garage floor. The other side is still whole but needs another run at the polishing disc.
Banded onyx. I'm not liking this stuff too much, and you'll see why in a bit.
Unknown, but may be some flavor of pet. wood. It acts like pet. wood.
Moonstone - a gift from Jo (naturenut). This was one that she had squared up then tumbled, and I shaped it some more and worked it on the expando belts. Then I broke off one tip, so I reshaped it and polished it all over again. It's hard to take a decent picture of it. Some day, I guess I'll find the secret?
Pet. wood of some sort. Love the colors, hate the way it has layers that are all different consistencies. Makes it difficult to get a good shine.
And one huge "OOPSIE!" or other unprintable words to that effect. This is why I don't like banded onyx. I was just wiping this one with a microfiber cloth to get the dust and fingerprints off, and this happened.
Well, that's all the damage I can do today. Thanks for looking! If you can give me correct names for any of them, PLEASE do!
Tom
