Ppork! Taking the pics is a bummer, but this beautiful set of opal was worth it!!! Resize in photobucket if you use that, but I think they look good this big! Love that blue one backlit!

I'd give my first born child to have the material and be able to cab what you've shown, especially the last blue one. OK....I'll have to be honest - I'd give away my first born for anything right now!!! 16 y/o boy available very cheap! All kidding aside, I really would to find out how to get a little bit of the rough and then some instructions on how to produce a cab as beautiful as you have done! Susan

Many thanks, PPorky! You are the man! That is some great material you have there and you have done so much with it. I am mightily impressed. It is hard to pick fiery favorites, but those last two are pretty special. I sure hope you won't be reticent in posting your stuff in future. T

Amazing colors and flashes! The blue one in the last pic is my favorite.

Susan Pickup some base white Opal (cheap, but no color) to practice on as it's a softer material (mohs 6ish) and takes a little getting used to. Final polish with cerium on a felt pad just so the stone starts to drag a little. Stay away from Koroit Opal to start as the dissimilar materials are a little frustrating to get a good shine to start with. Now go find some rough and get polishing. Dr Joe .

Dr Joe I'll do as you suggest....I don't have any to work with. However, I keep reading different references to opal, or some types of it, being kept in water. Can you explain? Thanks, Susan 16 year old still available!!!!!!!!

Much better photos. Man those things are beautiful. I've done a little opal but can't afford anything that nice. Maybe someday I'll hit the lottery. Thanks for the improved pics.
