A while ago, I posted the trials, and tribulations of my old 20 inch Highland Park saw acting up. At that time, I had replaced the bearings, which were totally worn out, made some adjustments, and the saw behaved itself for a while, but only for a while. Well, I had a new feedscrew made, since Diamond Pacific only had replacements for "newer" 20 inch saws, and mine turned out to be one of the first 20 inch that HP made. There was about .008 " wear in the centre of the screw, and I had thought replacing the screw would solve the problem. It did not. Now, I had sharpened the threads in the split nuts, but failed to check the diameter of same. I called Diamond Pacific again, and ordered new nuts. Saw now runs like it is new or something! Here is a side by side of the worn nuts, and the new nuts. Just look what close to fifty years will do to nuts running in rock snot will do.

Plenty of both old nuts and new nuts in this hobby.

I'm surprised those old nuts were moving the carrage at all.

That is an incredible difference.
Wonder how long until Shannon checks out this thread?
