I spent a few hours outside today cutting mostly preforms. Once they were all cut, I had to get some slabs done before my blade didn't want to cut anymore and my hands were frozen. I will start with the preforms. I have to warn you, some of these are blurry. I think after so much cutting, my hands won't hold still: Here is one I cut from a slab from Maryann Some Amethyst Sage from Maryann: This is from a rock I got from Jamie. It was a caramel brown with lots of cream color running through it. When I cut slabs, it had patterns that you can't see very well in these preforms but they are pretty! From a moss rock I got from Jamie This is some picture jasper from riverbend lapidary that I just got. This is also from the slab set I got from Riverbend. I am not sure what this is. At first, I thought it was bloodstone but it cut a bit differently. Seemed a bit softer and has a lighter bluish area in it but the rest of the stone is a darker green. I am almost wondering if it is jade. What ever it is, I like it! After the preforms, I cut some glass for the tumbler. Some blues and some pinkish purple slabs Then I went to obsidian. Then I had to cut up some of the rhyolite that I received from Jamie and Rodney, after I saw Rodneys post. There are a few soft spots but other areas are really solid. Then I tried to cut up a bunch of Pigeon blood I received from Catmandewe. That is when the saw blade said it had had enough and I only got 4 slices. That's OK. My hands were frozen by then. Thanks for looking! Fran

Wow, Fran - you had a good day of cutting. Do you have a name for the 6 kinda tan looking ones at the top center of picture #4? Are they maybe some flavor of obsidian or glass, or something else? And the one in #5 looks like some imperial jasper that I have - lovely stuff. The 2nd amy sage is gonna be beautiful. You're gonna have a real purty batch after you finish them!

A lot of promissing preforms there! My favorites are the imperial jasper tie from MaryAnn and the pictural set from Riverbandlapidary.

Thank you everyone! Adrian, my weakness is picture jaspers. I just love what you can see in them! The imperial I am really happy with and I sure hope I can do it justice! I am trying to figure out which ones you are talking about Tom. If it is picture 4 in the center, that is a light green quartz from Catmandewe. It is a bit faded because they are a little darker than that. If it is quartz, it is a fantastic quality and cuts really smoothly with no undercutting. The darker ones in that picture are amethyst sage. You can't seen how nice they are unless they are held up in the light. I don't cut too close on them with the saw because they will undercut/chip. I had a little problem with them so I had to redraw the patterns on them in better positions. I will get them ready on the grinder. Fran
