This past weekend was the first of our two fall rock shows. Amber and I each spent a fair chunk of change but had decided to spend it on buying better material. Not that we have a lot of choice at shows around here, slab vendors are few and far between and people selling rough are virtually unheard of. Here are my purchases.
Here are some close-ups. This is the most expensive slab I've ever bought but I've always wanted a slab of Prudent Man. I'm thinking this came from the second or third dig.
Thought this flame might make a nice doublet over white.
Unknown.
I'd really like to find out what this stuff is. Seems soft an rather unstable so it will take some work to finish.
This pet wood is identified as sycamore and knowing wood I as I do I would agree. The feather patterning of the grain is perfectly preserved in this slab.
Another unknown. Amber thinks wood due to the pattern but I'm thinking its the way the mineral formed not a replacement. Any ideas?
Lepidiolite from New Hampshire.
Polka Dot jasper without the polka dots. Has some nice patterning though.
Dino bone. I bought a few of these but this one has green so its my fav.
Unknown. Its small, heavy and is filled with a silverish metal. Any ideas what this is? I think this will end up being a cab for me to wear.
Thought this might make some interesting doublets if the agate ends up being clear enough.
A small but gemmy chunk of rhodochrosite that I cut into 3 slices.
I also got some fordite but forgot to take pics. You will see a cab of it soon.
These next two items were my deal of the day. S & S Lapidary is a cabochon dealer that ends up at a lot of shows around here. He makes some very nice cabs and always has some slabs to go through. He also had a pile of used Nova wheels sitting there for sale. He said they had about a third of their life left and he was only asking $15 a piece! I thought that was a steal so I bought two, a 280 and 600. I tried the 280 last night and it works like a champ. I'll have to revamp my machine to fit the 600 on though.
