Check this guy's saw out (second and third pix): www.moorelapidary.com/about.htmlThat's a four-foot blade. I met him at the Houston Gem and Mineral Society Show. He was selling gorgeous, huge (two-feet long in some cases) slices of polished pet wood, gary green and tiger iron. I wound up buying a beautiful 31-pound hunk of Rosetta lace from him (pix to come) for a stunningly good price. I may need to take it to his shop to have it cut, though. LOL. matt

Wonder how much one of those blades goes for. Looks like they have quite an operation.

Thanks for the link. What an operation they have going. He sure knows his minerals and writes good info. My dream job someday (my wife can do the jewelry).

Oh, yes, I saw his booth -- it was amazing!!! Such beautiful slices... (they seemed too huge to be slabs ;D ) I didn't realize he was in Houston! Lucky us. ;D

Drjo, I was thinking that too! Maybe they just moved in at that point. The first time they haul one of those chunks out of the saw it's going to drip rock oil all over the place! Those are some amazing saws and I did like his story about how he started out as a boy. Nice to see where this hobby ends up ;D Steve

I had a saw that beat this one at one time - Some years ago I was "given" a saw by some people I knew - I quickly realized how much fun it would be to use it, but then reality set in and the cost of running it, and where to run it the EPA wouldn't be breathing down my neck. So I sold it and split the money with the family. The one I had was called a rail saw - Had a 6 foot diamond blade and the saw itself was 6 foot wide, and 26 foot long! - The vise jaws were 3' x 4' foot and would open 8 foot wide! It was a monster! - It ran off of 220V and was chain driven with a Jeep Transmission for selecting speed setting. I never did see it actually run, but could just imagine the noise and oil vapor that came off that machine Anyrate if I had the proper place and a fat pocket book - I'd probably have it running. But so it goes in life!
