Hello, just wanted to post my progress. I had some time this weekend and tried to work on my skills. I posted the pic's next to the rocks they came from as I think it's pretty cool to see ordinary rocks turn into something extra ordinary. If you know what any of this material is please let me know! I just pick most of it up off the ground because it looks interesting. Now I need a better camera with a micro lens. Two days work 1, Black with gold flakes, very hard stuff. No cracks those are the gold flakes sideways. 2, The white is in the stone, not a cracked or flaked 3, There's a seam of some sort of metal running in this stone, softer material 4, Love this orange color, quartz like in hardness 5, ? looks cool in person 6, Beautiful colors in this that don't show in pic. white spots are little tiny pits that polish got into. 7, Moss like agate 8, ? some sort of agate 9, Moss like, white inside material 10, Idaho Star Garnet with Stargazer Thanks for looking and if you know what any of this is please let me know!

Nice work, great shapes. That garnet is amazing, and that orange quartz/quartzite is perfect--great shape and shine. Love seeing the treasures in "ordinary" rock.

Nice cabs. Here's my $.02 worth, and believe me, it's worth every penny! LOL!
Pic # 6 looks like goldstone ("monkstone") - a variety of manmade glass. I love the stuff - I have some in that brick red, some forest green, and some ink-blue. Sparkles like crazy.
Pic # 10 - the one on the right looks like petrified wood.
Remember - these are my guesses based on material that I have on hand that looks just like it. YMMV

Real nice work. If #4 also was a stone you just picked up it may be adventurine with lots of mica flake. (LOL spellchecker just recommended I change adventurine to advent-urine)

Thanks Tom and Lee, yes it's just stuff I picked up off the Yellowstone (near Billings) or Columbia (near the Tri-Cities) river bank. The garnets I dug up at the Emerald Creek garnet area in Idaho.

WOW you are doing great!! THose looka wesome I really like the red oval!!! Also tha tis the first star garnet or sapphire that I could see the star! Very cool!!!! Use a waterpick or sprayer to get the polish out!!!! SOmetimes a toothpick wrapped with tissue helps get it out without scratching the stone! Great job you are doing!!!!! Amber

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, bu tI think all your cabs look fantastic. The shapes all look pretty even/symmetrical, the domes look good from the photos, and they all shine nicely, without scratches showing. I think you've done a fine job! Congratulations!
