Howdy folks, Was rummaging around in some of my bins and found a Dryhead nodule I self collected many years ago. This was horrible digging too as the dozer was broken that day and all us diggers who paid our $35 for 24 hours of digging had to clear off four feet of silicified limestone to get to the nodules instead of having the dozer do it for us. A I almost didn't cut this nodule because it was a smoothy. For those of you that have the opportunity to buy Dryheads, the real smooth chocolate brown nodules are most often duds. The good ones usually show some ridges, bumps, or roughened areas on the exterior that indicate an agate filling. This one was dead smooth except for a slight rough area on one end. Anyway, I vised it up and the first three 1/4 inch slabs were just solid brown matrix with no agate at all. Almost chucked it out in the junk pile but instead I turned it around to try the other end and got those two slabs before the pattern again ran out. Pretty cool that they were unfractured too because a good portion of Dryheads do show fractures. Thanks for looking.....Mel ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/DSCN4789.jpg) ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/DSCN4790.jpg)

Great Dryhead Mel! I'm glad you didn't toss it out...your persitence paid off. I would have loved to have had the chance to dig Dryheads. I doubt I'll ever be able to anymore. Steve

Steve: Yeah, I believe Santiam Lapidary bought the claims right after our trip and closed the dig to the public. Then, I heard there was some kid of dispute over ownership followed by some rich guy buying the whole area and he has no desire to reopen the area. Too bad as there was a huge area to dig and the place was really scenic. Right by the wild horse ranges too so lots of neat mustangs to watch.....Mel
