My Workforce saw finally died...seized up after being left outside all Winter (oops). Well, it was 5-6 years old. Apparently Home Depot doesn't sell this saw anymore...so I'm in the market for a really good 7" or, possibly, 10 " tile saw that will kick ass at slabbing and trimming! Can't spend more than $1,000... any suggestions?

If you're looking for quality tile saws in that kind of price-range, I'd look at the MK Diamond lines. I have the MK145 that I use as my trim saw with a 4" thin lap blade that I absolutely love. They have 7" saws with various motor strengths and a nice sliding table that you could easily rig up a vice for (1/2hp saw - www.mkdiamond.com/tile/saw_377.html ). They also have a monster 10" tile saw ( www.mkdiamond.com/tile/saw_tx3.html ) for just under $1000. It's their annual winter sale right now, so you might check with John @ JSGems to see what sort of prices you could get on one of those.

I didn't think that it was possible to kill a Workforce saw. Mine's been outside, uncovered for about three years. It's under a pile of snow right now! ;D

With that budget I would not even look at tile saws. There are good 10" slab/trim saws with autofeed and cross feed in the $900 range. ask John what he can cet you a tricked out 10" Covington saw for. www.covington-engineering.com/trim_saws.htmIf you can find a used slab/trim saw, you could consider a 10" tile saw from HarborFreight as a 2nd saw.
