Like an idiot I took a load going towards Frederick Maryland on Monday afternoon and a light load at that. 15,000lbs of potato chips for Costco.
In snow storms like this you need as much weight as you can get, like 45,000lbs.
I got to Hagerstown Md. yesterday afternoon, found a truckstop and parked for the night. yep, I was bored so I took some pictures also.
This morning the truckstop was packed. Trucks everywhere and they had most all the trucks blocked in. I was one of the lucky ones that had a straight shot through the fuel islands and out the exit. trucks were even parked at the fuel islands all night sleeping cuz there was no place to park.
After I got empty at Costco I had to head west on I70 to go up to Johnstown Pa. to get another load. While doing so, empty now the roads were very nasty. Going up the 1,700' hills was a bear, jackknifing my way up the hills.
One dumb driver was in the left lane trying to get up the hill and couldn't make it so traffic came to a stop. I was done, couldn't get going up the hill again. I backed down the hill a bit to get to the side as much as possible along with all the other trucks that couldn't get up the hill.
Plow trucks were not even out there. I called the broker to let them know I couldn't make it on time.
As I sat there I was getting pissed that I was stuck.
I dropped my air bags on the truck, slammed it in 8th gear and stood on that mutha. I inched my way up the hill at about 3mph til I got over it. I called the broker and got another load outta Pittsburgh.
Called them and they told me they called second shift off for today cuz of the snow..
Now I have to find a good place to eat a steak tonight and load in the morning.
Maryland called their plows in, off the road because of whiteout and I70 ain't much better here in Pa.
Here are some of the pics I took last night and this morning as I got on the interstate with whiteout..
Fun, fun, fun.
Notice the mirror, no snow,
Little snow on mirror,
Now the whiteout this morning,
