I know, tomato or tomahtoe, but how is chalcedony pronounced? I've heard it both ways, but I imagine there must be one proper pronounciation.

*LOL* Man this is an interesting thread. I t reminds me of when I was in a rockshop in Fredericksburg, Texas. I was admiring a fine hunk of Cathedral Agate when this drop dead gorgeous Texas co-ed came up to me and asked if I collected Kal-cod-a -nee. I blinked more at her appearence ,which definitly had me in my normal state ot tongue-tiedness, and replied you mean kal-ced-nee? Then with bowed head I was required to listen to a long lecture on how most non-geology majors pronounce this term wrong. Then while I was still trying to recover, she promptly asked it since I was from Kaaaally-forn-ya, had I ever been to see the Toofa- Tars ( Tuffa Towers!) at Anyo Layyy-ek ( Inyo Lake). At that point I just gave up and thought about how pretty she was......mel

Never did like the word, too pretentious for a rock. Rocks should be simple - like jade, agate, jasper, onyx, quartz, flint. Even some three syllable rocks bother me - sodalite, amethyst. Tiger eye is ok - Ty grrry. Only two there. And forget about them chryso.... rocks. OK, I'm done.
