How do YOU keep your feet warm outdoors when it's cold? I've tried lots of things, but my feet always sweat and then get cold. Later, jeri

Over size boots and two pair of wool socks. Having lots of room for my feet seems to help the most. Having a thick sole to keep the feet as far from the ice helps too. All this considered, this would be the ideal winter boot: Ha, me and Kiss, ice fishing.

I really like those second skin type polypropolene sp? socks worn under my boot socks. Keep the feet really warm even when they're hanging out in the wind riding horseback and if you're hiking, they really breathe, stay dry, and help prevent blisters too.....Mel

i like Rocky Gortex boots with 1000gr thinsulate .or neoprene , rubber style boots Knee high for deep snow . also with thinsulate . and use smart wool socks from LL bean .. they are thick socks . so boots have to be bigger than normal . ----paul

Those boots are awesome!
Don't let your feet sweat, maybe you're over-doing it on the layers??

At least you admit you have sweaty feet, most women wouldn't admit that... May I call you cheese feet now?

Artic cat boots. Best damn pr of boots I ever had. Never got cold, and the feet never sweat. I got them when I was about 16 yrs old, they lasted over 15 years and if I didn't lose the left one I'd still be wearing them. The sole was thick so the feet never really felt the cold ground.
Feet can sweat and not smell as long as you keep the feet and the boots clean and ya don't have the smelly feet genes.

At least you admit you have sweaty feet, most women wouldn't admit that... Thanks for the compliment! And back at ya! You've already discovered that I'm not like 'most' women. Usually takes most men a while to figure that out. May I call you cheese feet now? You may NOT! That'd be my husband. I gag over his socks everytime I do laundry. LOL I inherited sweaty feet, thanks Dad! At least I didn't get the smelly feet gene. I appreciate the helpful comments and will look into trying some of them. However, I don't think the Kiss boots are really my style. Later, jeri

My feet are almost always cold, indoors or out. I wear a good pair of waterproof boots, my wool socks AND an important step. I use anti perspirant on my little footies when its real cold. Something about the cold.......my feet dont even hardly sweat during hot weather but if its cold they get damp and clammy and then I can never get them to warm up. The anti perspirant helps that.
I also use those little disposable toe warmers. I'd be screwed without them during hunting season or cold rockhounding trips.

Tight fitting boots can give you more than just cold feet. Chilblaines are caused by tight boots when it is cold......and they are not pleasant.
Lori: Is there a good story to losing that left boot?

I've used two layers of socks, a thin cotton first and then a wool. The idea is that the cotton wicks any moisture away from your skin and transfers it to the wool. Feet seem to breathe better too. I have a pair of Sorels that I've used every winter for almost 30 years. They have a wool liner that keep your feet cozy, but not too tight. Waterproof too. I don't even lace them up anymore, can just slip them on and off. Jo

You might try running socks for the first layer. They'e made out of coolmax that wicks away moisture. Then put something nice and warm over those.

Yeah. I wanna hear the left boot story too. I'm sitting here wondering how the heck short of a landmine, does one lose one boot? Been wearing boots all my life and I've never even come close to losing one, Had 'em stepped on by a horse and crushed, chewed up by the dog, stuck in the mud and a time or two have almost had to pull one out of some fellers ass, but never lost one. That's seems dang careless and deserves a good story.....Mel

The main thing is to wick the moisture away from your feet, regardless of the temps. I use the same as Mel. Polypropylene for the base layer (they're less than 2 dollars a pair at my local farm store. No fancy name brand ones needed), then the wool or blend socks over that. My boot of choice is a pair of 800 gram thinsulate Rocky gore-tex bear claws. (Don't buy the cheaper "waterproof material" boots. It don't work - ask me how I know!)
Nate
P.S. If I may hazzard a guess for Lori's missing boot - I'm gonna say she stepped in a hole ice fishing.

Shan, I still have the original liners in 'em!! They've had holes for the past 4 or 5 years, and every winter I tell myself that I'm gonna get new ones, LOL. I use them for walking in cold shallow creeks too and stay warm and dry as heck. They are awesome, glad you are a fan too! Mel, I got a pair of plastic oversized western stirrups so I could wear my Sorels riding. Jo

I gotta vote for the Sorels too! A wicking sock an insulating sock and some sort of pac boot. I like a loose fit unless the outdoor event is gonna be a long hike or trek.
