I cut my slabs in the garage with the garage door open but I'm wondering if mist that sprays out can be harmful. I do wear a mask. My question is can that mist/dust be harmful when I take it off or my wife goes into the garage without a mask? Might it be best to do it outside in the patio? How do you folks do it?

I keep my slab saw about 50 feet away from the house, in a dog kennel, under a cresote bush. The kennel is covered and lockable and its mainly there becasue of the mess, not the fumes.

I have a detached garage with my 18" saw. I have my 12" on a rolling cart and move it into the driveway. When I have my saws running I'm usually outside with my high speed sander or changing my tumblers. I do notice the fumes from my 18" and don't stay long in the garage when cutting.

I have my workforce outside and stand behind the saw. The water goes forward, away from me...............oh, and I stay dry! LOL

I would stay away form the mist if at all possible. I read the msds for Chevron Shingle oil and Liquid Ice (a water-based tool coolant) and, aspirated pneumonia was listed in the section regarding the breathing of the mists.
I have two saws 10" and 18" and I cut outside in the backyard patio.

Not sure about this, maybe somebody with some real experience can comment but wouldn't it be better to use 1) food grade mineral oil and (2) maybe something like Bardahl no smoke to reduce misting? Bob

I use my 7" Husky outside on the patio also standing behind it & let the wind blow it all away from me. I also keep my hose on trickle so I don't run out of water & have to stop & refill. I'm trying to figure out a way to insert the hose in so it doesn't elevate the lid.

i have 4 saws all in my shop, running all the time, never thought about the fumes. The door in the summer is open most of the time.

I started using (yellow kerosene, before K-1) in the late 60's and then went to deisel. Now I use cutting oil in all my saws except the trim saws(water). Always cut indoors, no mist except when opening the hood on the 24" or the 20". The 14" ones are drop saws and mist all the time. going to move them out into an open shelter, not because of the mist, but because of the mess the mist makes on the garage floor. Been cutting 40 years and ain't dead yet. In my opinion, and we all have one, it is like the mercury scare and the asbestos scare and the lead scare. Have to be in it ALL the time to effect you. Played with mercury all the time as a kid and installed and cut asbestos siding shingles and have a piece of lead pencil(before they took it out) in my hand that I got in the second grade. Hey, on second thought, MAYBE that is what is wrong with me.....too much bad stuff. Hee hee

I use my 10" saw either in the garage with the door open or on the driveway with white mineral oil. When it starts to mist, I add a little Bardahl No Smoke (like Bob mentioned).
I'm currently using my WF in the basement shower stall.
